My name is Mike. I live in Parkville, Maryland. I am writing you to report a scam. This is the first time I’ve felt obligated to bring to light a scam I have encountered in my life. My hopes are that you interpret my experience, the facts, and let the public know about this scam. HIKO Energy is an energy supplier that operates not only in Maryland, but also NY, NJ, IL, PA, and OH. On Friday, October 30th at 8:30 pm, sales agent Aisha Cheyo, code-8288, approached my door and questioned me if I had received a refund from Baltimore Gas and Electric (BGE) due to overcharging. The sales agent proceeded to lie to me multiple times regarding her companies intentions before convincing me to sign a contract under false pretenses.

In sequence, this is the conversation I had with Aisha. My first question to her was, “Are you trying to sell me a different energy supplier?” Aisha’s reply was, “No, this is simply to update you to the current energy rates, to get you the refund from BGE, and one month of free energy, next year, of your choosing.” This was a lie. This is the time where she explained to me that BGE had overcharged me during the previous calendar year and that I was going to receive a credit on my next bill along with the month of free energy that was previously proposed. I signed the contract, not reading the fine print, at my own detriment. After reassuring me that HIKO Energy was not a supplier of energy and that they were hired directly by BGE to act as a third party to update me to the current rates I agreed to what had been verbally proposed.

Aisha then instructed me that she would have to make a call to finalize the agreement and that the person on the phone was going to ask me a series of questions that I should respond yes to. This is the point where I should have thrown the red flag on their company and walked away. Aisha made the call to get a confirmation number and have me respond to the series of questions. Hiko Energy’s sales agent blatantly lied to me about their organizations service and the terms of agreement to the contract that I signed. After signing the contract I went inside to read the fine print and do some research about Hiko Energy. What I learned made me sick to my stomach because I knew then that I had been scammed. Hiko Energy has an “F” rating with the Better Business Bureau, and multiple reports on RipoffReport.com. Multiple lawsuits, and a countless number of negative reviews follow this company. This is because HIKO energy operates as a variable rate, non-regulated, energy supplier under the guise as a third party consultant to BGE.

Google search for “Hiko energy reviews”, you will be shocked on how this company is still allowed to operate. After doing my research online and reading the fine print of the contract I called Aisha and told her that I wanted to terminate the contract immediately, and cancel the service before it even starts. Her response to me was, “Well you have everything you need to do that in front of you,” and hung up the phone. I am going to fill out the Notice of Cancellation form required by their contract (in the three day grace period that they provide) and send it certified mail tomorrow. I am sending this situation to the Better Business Bureau, Ripoff Report.com, and WBAL’s 11 Investigates I-Team so that the information gets out to the public to minimize the amount of people that get scammed by this company. Please do your own research on Hiko energy so you get the full picture of what they are getting away with and how wrong it is.
