Humana health insurance is provided to me by my employer. I became eligible and enrolled last February.
In July I switched to a new doctor, John Williams of Piedmont Family Practice, after they told me repeatedly (when I inquired, when I set the appointment, and when I arrived for the appointment) that they accept my insurance.
I just got an e-mail from Humana saying that they paid the claim, but the amount paid was zero because my doctor was not in their "network". I then checked their website to see what doctors are in-network in my area. There are none! The two hospitals in town are also not in-network.
In fact, their website says that my plan (which i and my employer have been paying for!) is not even available in my area. The end result is that I and my employer are both shelling out big money for nothing due to this fraudulent activity by Humana.

Thankfully, a PPO plan means you can go to any provider, participating or not. But if you go to one that doesn't contract with Humana, it will pay at some sort of lower benefit. The online tool just shows participating providers, not all providers, in an area.

My Humana is whereI found out

It is when I go to My Humana that I found out that the plan I have is not available in my area. It is the PPO plan.
There are no local doctors.
The response I received today from Humana is that it was my fault for going to a non-participating doctor. They also said it was no problem because there are doctors within 50 miles of me! I can't drive, and am in no condition to walk 50 miles!
Amy, How do i get in touch with you to get you to correct this?

There are lots of different 'networks' depending on the type of plan you have. Without knowing what type of plan you have, and the plan/option numbers, it's hard to give further comment. I work for Humana, but not in sales or customer service. That said, I'd be willing to try to help you figure this out if you can provide more information.
I find it difficult to believe that the insurance you have is not available in your area. Humana has extensive networks and a huge number of providers. Have you used the 'find a doctor' link at Humana.com?
I get the impression, as well, that employers get to choose (to at least a small degree) what network they'd like to be a part of. I'm not at all positive about that, though. Maybe you should ask the person at your company who's in charge of healthcare decisions for their help, too.
