Do not use Hurricane Drain in Colorado! Two and half years ago, I called them to clean roots out of my line from my house to the main drain. I was quoted a charge of nearly $300. The plumber who came out stated that if we spent another $300 to elongate the outside riser, the charge for future cleanings would only cost $60.

Last weekend, I had them come out to do it again. I was told it would cost $197.50 for the first hour and $128 each hour after that. When I disputed this, the plumber told me that was impossible. He continued to tell me that "they hire anyone who will pass a drug test" and that the previous plumber lied to us to make the sale. He contacted his foreman to see if there was anything that could be done. I was told that they would do nothing to compensate me for their deception and that "I need to be more careful when hiring people" to do work on my home. I was also told that they now have a decent crew that wouldn't do that again and that I wouldn't find a cheaper rate in town. I made one phone call and found someone to do it for $153.00 no matter how long it took. Obviously, I went with the other company.

If this company was decent, they would have done something to make this right. They admitted they hire liars and, subsequently, thieves. Employees reflect the company, therefore, Hurricane Drain is nothing but a bunch of liars and thieves.

They are a Better Business Bureau company and I plan to also report them to the BBB.

#1 UPDATE EX-employee responds

rebuttel of hurricane drain

AUTHOR: Gary - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, May 03, 2008

My Name is Gary and I worked for hurricane drain for about 6 months. I left because I wasn't making money;however, I have no anamosity towards hurricane drain. I worked for another plumbing company prior to hurricane drain and I know people who are still plumbing and hurricane drains' employee's are no different than any other plumber I have known. Like any other company, no matter who it is, there are going to be good and bad employees. Most of the employees I worked with were not ripoffs but hardworking men who took pride in their work.

The way most plumbers make money is by "upselling". As a matter of fact, most service electricians, service hvac and other service technicians "upsell" to make money. When I was a Carpet Cleaner I upsold. Most people upsold legitimate repairs but some guys lied about repairs that weren't needed. Most didn't but a company shouldn't be held responsible for a couple of bad apples.

The charge in 2007 was 150.00 but with gas prices they probably had to raise prices.

I have no contact with any current or ex-employee so I have no agenda to defend a company that I feel gave good service and price.

Most of the customers with Hurricane drain were repeat customers. If hurricane drain was so bad, why do they have so many repeat customers?

While I worked at a larger plumbing service, I was presured to upsell. I had to bring in a certain amount every week. There was a chart on the wall that showed how every employee was doing. If i didn't get an additional charge from what was requested by the customer, I had to write on the invoice they, the customer, declined.

While working at Hurricane Drain, I was never pressured to upsell. I was only pressued to get through the jobs as quick as possible.

I would recommend Hurricane Drain to my family and friends in a heartbeat.
