I provided the "required" documentation for membership to this combat veterans internet-based organization.
After acquiring my very personal identification information from personal and sensitive documents, this organization, after having sent many emails asking for this information, then said that I had provided the incorrect documents.
That raised an immediate RED FLAG as the documents provided to verify military service and combat theater included the infamous, well-known DD-214. ANY person, even the most brain-dead moron, who serves a single day in the military has one of these and knows what it is without a second thought.
The DD is Department of Defense, so this form is universal to all branches of the military and is a summary of all service and awards. It is provided to the individual upon separation from the military. EVERYONE gets one.
Now that they have all my personal information, I'm not so sure that this is not some scam to gain veterans Social Security numbers and other identification for some other perhaps even fraudulent purpose. They obviously got mine.
I have no recourse but to consider this and warn people of this because: the emails immediately stopped, none of my email inquiries to them have been answered, no membership has been granted, and in my last emails, I stated that I had these concerns and would be filing complaints if they did not respond to me within 48 hours.
Since the email from them stating I had supposedly sent them the wrong documents came within a few minutes of submitting them via email and website, I can only assume that there is some underhanded reason to now be avoiding my email inquiries.
This is my opinion because of what I view as very, very suspicious behavior.
Let's face it, when you tell a veteran, who has military license plates for Iraq that the very basic DD-214 he sent you (and which he had to provide to obtain the Gulf War plates in two states over the past two decades) is the wrong form... well, what else can you believe these days except the worst... after all, the fraud-committing fools out there love to hide behind supposedly benign or morally-correct, upright names and organizations.
Be very careful with these people.
