Nathaniel of South Holland IL (08/28/08)
I charged $53.00 for charges I did not authorize. This has been going on for months. They tried to claim a family member did this but I've learned that it was not true. Now they have may name and number and who knowns what they are going to do next.

Melanie of Sealy TX (08/27/08)
For the past year The AT&T phone service and features did not match up with the billing statement. I thought the problems might be at the physical connection or with the phone. After extensively inquiring with AT&T - I was told they do not provide the cards for my voice mail and the billing is with I.L.D. and to call that number for questions or problems involving my voice mail. I called I.L.D. and was told my personal phone number was not registered with their service and if I had another phone number. I did not give out my name to the I.L.D. representative or any of my personal information.

I demanded a refund and wanted to know the exact amount and received no response from the I.L.D. representative - got clicked off with music playing in my ear. Hung up and called I.L.D. again giving my FAX Phone# and a representative promised I will receive a refund for $74.75 on AT&T's next billing cycle. AT&T was immediately made aware of my dismay with their association with American E-Voice and I.L.D. Billing Services.

This mess was going on since October 3, 2007 with third party billing services (I.L.D.) and fraudulent behaviors by American E-Voice. I will definitely follow up on this matter and I look forward to receiving my refund for $74.75 from I.L.D. billing services via my AT&T phone bill. PRIVACY ISSUE - Theft of my communication services including: FAX & Voice Mail - DECEPTION.

Martha of Raleigh NC (08/27/08)
We have been charged $309.54 by Host A Website.Biz, LLC through ILD Teleservices. This company recorded a spliced together audio saying that we committed to these charges and services. We have NEVER signed up nor authorized them to charge us.

We contacted ILD Teleservices, Inc. to complain. They refuse to refund us the 309.54. This is unacceptable that this kind of business goes on. We have read about many cases like ours and don't understand why these companies are authorized to STEAL money from small businesses like us.

Craig of South Charleston OH (08/27/08)
Received phone bill from AT&T saw disputed charge for $16.00 from Enhanced Services Billing, Inc. Left message to call me at work. Called ATT 11:27am talked to Mary would not give last name, Threatened to file complaint with PUCO she didnt care. Asked to talk to Supervisor, waited till 11:42 no supervisor, Filed complaint to PUCO,

2008-03-31 Received phone bill from AT&T saw disputed charge for $16.00 from ILD Teleservices, Inc. 8:12am called AT&T representative told her about charge, she said AT&T was authorized to bill customers for charges through this company, I must call company, 8:15am called ILD was transferred to Netwatchisp, after 3 times finally reached someone who gave me phone # . 9:03am talked to Nancy she said she would cancel the reoccurring billing request. 9:06am called ATT talked to Johandra she said she could not help she will send me a form to block charges. She tried to sell me more services. ATT finally took charges off bill.

Mental stress, feeling of hopelessness, how many times will I have to do this. Spent 1.5 hours doing this, made complaint to PUCO twice

Sara of Norristown PA (08/27/08)
My verizon home phone bill was charged 19.95 by ILD Teleservices with no descrpition of what the charges were for. I did not authorize any charges to this account and my phone company claims they are not responsible for resolving this issue

I cannot afford to be paying money I do not have for services that I never ordered or received

Robert of Tampa FL (08/26/08)
They are trying to rip off my mother in-law who is 76 years old and is on SS fix income. They charged her verizon bill with set up charges and high long distances charges. Some how they switched her long distance service from verizon's. I want to know how can verizon let that happen, does verizon own a piece of this scamming company?

Gracie of St. Louis MO (08/26/08)
My daughter's phone was charged for a voicemail service through ILD. I pay her bill. She did not enroll in this. I was told to call ILD and talk with Derek or David, however I cannot reach either of them and the other phone number I called (on my AT&T phone bill) for ILD is busy all the time!

I do not know what to do because I cannot reach anyone and when I looked up ILD online I found a lot of consumer complaints about them similar to mine.

Lois of Wernersville PA (08/26/08)
Thei company placed a charge on my phone bill. I never even heard of thei company before!!!!

It was a good thing I caught it before I paid the second bill

Carolyn of Central Point OR (08/26/08)
They added a charge of 14.95 to my phone bill twice, even after I complained that I had not ordered their service. They sent it on to a collection service ILD. They are using bogus information to cram charges on my phone bill. We are in the third month and Jessica assures me she has now blocked my phone number from her service. What I want to know is why is it so easy to add an unauthorized charge to my phone bill.

It's very time-consuming to get the charges corrected. And as so other people in my neighborhood who are seniors that might not review their bills. It is fraudulent business practice.

Juanita of Hollywood AL (08/26/08)
I am a widow on a fixed income. I ran across, on the internet, a site where I would be notified of free coupons and store bargains in my area. Needing to SAVE as much money as possible in these times, I signed up. I did not know I was signing up for voicemail.

On my next AT&T bill, there was a $12.95 fee for joining, and a monthly $14.95 charge for voicemail, which I do not even know how to use and have never had it explained to me how to access such a feature. This is fraudulant advertising and a ripoff which I do not believe should be allowed to continue.

Joe of Saint Louis MO (08/26/08)
I noticed on our corporate phone bill we were being charged for voice mail on one of our fax lines by ILD Inc. on behalf of Voice Mail Professionals. I called AT&T and disputed the charges and AT&T gave us a credit of $194.35 the following month.

On the same bill, AT&T gave us a credit we started receiving another charge from ILD Inc on behalf of Lunic Voice, LLC-Voicemail on a different phone line in our system. I did not order either of these voice mail services. We have our own internal voice mail system.

Although we were given a credit back on our bill in the amount of 194.35 we are incurring another charge 12.95 a month along with lost time researching the charges.

Lori of Irving TX (08/25/08)
I just received my phone bill on 8/25 an

Unauthorized Charges on Your Local Phone - Utility Bill?
How to Find Them, Eliminate Them & Get Your Money Back!
If your business still gets its phone service through the old "AT&T and Verizon, etc" local phone company (as opposed to one of the newer competitive phone providers) then you need to double check your phone bill each and every month for charges you did not authorize. You may not know it but the local phone company allows other companies to bill you through your local phone bill. And while the local phone company allows other businesses to bill you through your local phone bill, the local phone company does not verify that the charges being billed to you by the other company are valid. When these unauthorized charges fraudulently appear on your phone bill it's called "cramming". Unfortunately you as the business owner or manager are the only one that can spot the unauthorized charges and if you don't comb over your bill every month to spot these unauthorized charges - you'll pay for them.
Why does the local phone company allow other companies to pass charges onto your phone bill? "Third-party billing" is supposedly a great convenience in that you only have to pay one bill instead of separate bills for obvious authorized phone related charges like yellow-page advertising in the "real yellow pages", 411 information calls and long-distance calls from your chosen long distance carrier. Over the years though, some less-than-scrupulous companies have realized that most businesses rarely scrutinize their local-phone bills. To take advantage of this, these companies have come up with elaborate schemes to place
unauthorized charges on your phone bill that you'll end up paying for without even thinking. Unauthorized charges you can end up paying for include charges for unwanted (and unused) email accounts, web sites, directory information calls, directory advertising in obscure publications, voice mail accounts and other
services.
In theory, before these charges can be placed on your phone bill, the company that is originating the third-party billed charges is supposed to have a verification of the order like a voice recording. In reality though, all the company needs to do to initiate the charge is submit your name and phone number to the billing
entity. The verifications are only required to be produced if a complaint is filed.
To prevent these charges from appearing on you business phone bill it's helpful to understand the four parties that make unauthorized third party phone charges a costly reality. Party number one is any employee who can answer your business phones. The unauthorized charge is rarely random and it usually happens after one of your company employees gets a telemarketing call. Employees should be instructed to
document and report any overly aggressive telemarketing calls they receive. Party number two is the telemarketing company that originates the unauthorized charges by trying to get your employee to accept some service for which you'll be billed through your local phone bill. Party number three is the third-party billing company that has billing agreements with your local phone company. The name of the third-party
billing is the one that is prominently displayed on your phone bill. After the third-party billing company's name is the name of the company that is originating the unwanted charges. Party number four is your "former Ma Bell" local phone company that collects the unwanted charges (keeps a share for "Ma") and then passes the rest to the third-party billing company (who keeps a big share) and then passes the balance on to the company that initiated the unwanted charge.
Following are some of the top third-party billing names and unauthorized charge originators you'll find on your phone bill. If you see these names on your phone bill you'll want to call the toll free number listed next to the charge to confirm it's a charge that's been properly authorized to be placed on your bill. Following are actual examples that we've recently found while auditing business phone bills.
We recommend customers should review any utility bills issued by deregulated utility companies. (In most instances today, consumers are paying higher charges to the deregulated gas and electric supply companies).
All Utility - Energy, gas, electric and water bills should be reviewed for proper reading and tariff.
If you suspect that you have been overcharged ask for detailed explanation and or file a complaint with your State Utility Commission.
