I received a letter in the mail that I had unpaid tolls through the Illinois Tollway.  I paid $83.00 which was all I had.  I had been taking a lot of intermittent fmla days to take care of my mother. 

About month later I believe I received a letter in the mail from a collections agency regarding payment due to the Illinois Tollway Authority for $50.20.  I called the agency and I was told that the Illinois Tollway Authority was fining me $50 for not paying $0.20.  I said are you serious.  Are you kidding me?  Seriously $0.20.  I said I will pay the $0.20 and how do you want it.  I asked do you want two dimes in the mail, a money order for $0.20 or debit my account for $0.20.  I refused to pay a fine that is more than what I owe. 

I recently bought an ipass as I cannot afford to pay the recent hike of the tolls of $1.50 per toll.  I live in Indiana and commute to the Western Suburbs.  The gas alone is a lot and having to pay those tolls is killing me financially. I cannot register the ipass because it states I have fine violations. Now I will have to return the ipass and continue paying the $1.50 per toll.  I barely have gas to get to work let alone $50 to pay for not paying $0.20. 

I don't care what anyone says this is excessive and an abuse of power.  I have been trying extremely hard to find a job not in Illinois.  I have filed a complaint with the FTC.  I tried contacting an attorney and the attorney stated that it charging me for that was ridiculous.  This is excessive and they should not be legally able to bill someone for $50 over $0.20.  We as the citizens have no rights. 

Money is the root of all evil.  State government, politicians and all fall into that category.  They all will do anything to get that money.  Is there someone out there that can tell me where I can turn to.  If I get a job locally in Indiana, they can put that $50 on my credit report.  I will never pay that.  Paying it will say to them that they can do what ever they want without any regard to people.
