I started taking graduate classes at IND Wes and was told that FA does not take place until the 2nd class but everything looked to be in line and that I would receive full funds. I went through the first class and then was about to start the 2nd class only to find out that I had overlapping loans due to the academic year of IND WES. So now I have a balance of over 2,000 for a class that I took think that it would be paid for and the start of another classes. I had to drop out of IND WES because I was not going to be able to get funding to pay for the class that I had already taken and I could not continue without paying. Then they told me that I could go on a payment plan but the plan was going to be about $300 a month which I could not afford. When I asked why no one told me about this it didn't matter they said that I had to pay the money and that was it. Then to make matters worese because I owe a balance I am not able to get a transcript so that I can finish my education, so I am just suck. I don't know about anyone else but if I could pay out of pocket for school I wouldn't have taken out student loans.

IWU desire to help rectify the situation

AUTHOR: Thomas Ratliff - (USA)

POSTED: Wednesday, September 09, 2009

Missy,

I am sorry to hear of your challenge in qualifying for financial aid eligibility after borrowing a student loan at another institution for an overlapping time period.  That is a problem that some transfer students experience due to restrictive federal rules which we normally try to help resolve as soon as it is detected at Indiana Wesleyan University.  We would welcome the opportunity to work with you to try to determine a resolution that can help you get back on track with your educational pursuit.  Please give a call to our office at 765-677-2516 anytime 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM EST, Monday through Friday, to speak with us about available options.  I encourage you to please ask specifically for Chris Vermilion, my assistant director, to discuss your situation.

Sincerely,

Thomas Ratliff

Associate Vice President for Financial Aid

Indiana Wesleyan University
