I unwittingly made a purchase of four barstools from this company.  It was through a third party that I have done business with before, so I trusted the quality and ethics of the merchant I thought I was ultimately dealing with.

When the merchandise came, I opened only one box and found that what I thought I saw in the photo on line would be in the shipment (I saw better photos of these stools before) but these were cheaply made versions.  The upholstry was sloppily stapled to the underside of the seats, the finish was not steel but some kind of alloy that had no finish.  The seat and shaft attached to the base with only (3) 1/2" screws.  The finish on that base was a textured 1/8" metal over a heavy disc that warped as I tightened the screws to attach the shaft. I've seen better quality at Wall Mart.

I immediately sent for a return ticket, but found out that they didn't issue those and I would have to go through my choice of shipper and was encouraged to pack them the same as they came and insure them.  They said I would have to pay the extra shipping that they absorbed plus the cost of sending them back.  They also said that a 30% restocking fee would be deducted from my refund.  These communications were through the third party merchant that I don't want to mention here since they were instrumental in helping me through this ordeal.  I also made this purchase with my American Express card, and had notified AMEX of the difficulties I encountered in making this return.

A few days after I shipped the goods back via FedX ground insured for the full amount, I recieved a communication from the online merchant that Interior Trade reported to them that the unopened box arrived damaged and there was damage to the product as well. Three images were attached but they were so small (quarter inch square, low rez) they couldn't be seen with a magnifying glass.  Interior Trade conveyed that they were going to deduct another $116.00 from my refund for the damages.  I called FedX and asked what the proceedure was to collect on insured shipping.  That same day, I passed that info on to ITF saying FedX would be picking up the damaged packaging and documenting the damaged goods.  FedX made three attempts to do so but had no results.

I was credited a refund to my AMEX card for an amount that was $20 short of the cost of the barstools. I don't know who decided this amount. The shipping and sales tax were not refunded.  ITF does not have business in my state, so I shouldn't have been charged sales tax in the first place.  In all, it cost me $224.00 to return 4 bar stools that weren't what I thought they were from a company that I was not aware I was doing business with, but that part I take responsibility for since I didn't read the fine print. It took a lot of my time to repack, arrange for a refund, take the boxes to FedX and then all of the energy and time invested in the fight with Interior Trade Furniture through a mediary. Now I've taken the time to tell this story so that others can avoid the unscroupulous business practices of this company and to advise that you must read the fine print even if you're dealing with a merchant that you've trusted before.  They might be using suppliers like this one who has no conscience about vending inferior products at premium prices then counting on the customer to not have the time or patience to persue satisfaction.
