Reading all of the InTown Suites horror stories, I wanted to relate the strange experience I had with them at the Tucson, Arizona location.
I stayed here twice, both times for only one week, in 2003 and 2004 while moving. It was cheap, offered free wired internet access and seemed nice and new.
The first strange thing was that I got the exact same room both times. This particular room (both times) had a smell that was sort of like bacon grease. The fact that it was there both times indicated to me that it was just some sort of aura in the room and not really a residual smell caused by any temporary condition.
The first time I'd stayed there the manager was very nice and, when I couldn't get the internet to work, went through quite a bit of effort to figure it out. He actually brought my cable (and me) to his room to test it, and told me to buy a new cable, which I did, and it worked, although the other cable later worked (whatever).
The second time, the manager was a bit of a jerk, although I didn't ask for much. But, when I checked out, I had quite a bit of stuff and actually left three button shirts hanging in the closet. When I realized this and returned on Monday to try to retrieve them (since the office is closed for most of the weekend), the guy insisted that they were no longer there and that the hotel had no lost and found. He also offered no possible remedy to the situation but allowed me to go up to the room and see for myself.
These were thrift store shirts, so they collectively cost me a little over $5, but I liked them and it seemed pretty strange that someone would actually steal them.
I'm sure the place has only deteriorated all the more, so I would not stay here again, nor would I stay at their other locations. They're just generally dumpy, have terrible staff and usually attract transient criminals. I would also advise others to avoid this or any other location. In general, where they are, there is also Extended Stay America, which another story mentions, and is definitely a much better deal and lacks the problems that you'll face at InTown.
