Intuit has dramatically changed the licensing terms of the Turbotax software package this year, so that if you prepare more than one federal tax return you will be charged $10, regardless of whether you e-file or print your return. These additional fees are poorly disclosed on their website, and disclosed in very confusing terms and in very small print on the back of the retail software box. Even in looking at the back of the box, I was still confused if I would be charged the additional $10 for just printing a return (even just print to PDF).

Intuit, if you are so proud of your new pricing strategy, and convinced that it offers great value to your customers, display it clearly and concisely on your website and your boxed software. Don't hide it, as you are clearly attempting to do.

Also, Taxcut from H&R block is significantly less expensive, and does not have these restrictions on printing the additional returns in their software. I tried it out on the 2007 software, and it is just as easy to use as TurboTax.

Unfortunately you have very old information. The fee for preparing additional returns was rescinded even before the start of the 2008 tax filing season. Upon your first update of the TurboTax software, all messaging about additional return fees would have been removed and updated. Not only have we eliminated additional return fees, but we've included the ability for customers to e-file up to 5 federal tax returns (the limit imposed by the IRS) at no additional fee. Each federal e-filed return previously cost $17.95.

I hope this information helps and demonstrates the great value of TurboTax.
