It is always hillarious when people make comments like "I went to a reputable....".

What makes this jeweler more reputable than another? Was it because they told you what you wanted to hear? Was it just the latest one you went to?

As for the price, why were you getting it valued? Was it for an insurance apprasial, or was it for seeing how much you could sell it for? If it was the later, you can't expect anyone to buy something for what they would sell it for. After all they need to make a profit, and 2-3 times cost is about average for jewelers.

An interesting statement is your statement that says that your cut is not a "popular" cut.  Is that something this jeweler told you?  

You say you were originally told that the diamond was 3/4 carat, but you thought it was over 1 carat. Do you have proof of the original sale? Was it a Certified Diamond by companies such as the GIA? Do you still have that paperwork if it was? If you have proof of one grading, and a jeweler telling you another...one of those people are trying to rip you off.

It would probably be adviseable to go to another jeweler to see if what they appraise it at.  Now, if all of the paperwork turns out to be in order, a company can sell an item for what ever price, it is up to you the consumer, to decide if that is a fair price or not.

 My ex husband has the receipts.... So there is no problem as him and i still talk..... and when your jewelry gets appraised way less than the company you purchased from claims... then i think that itself can classify as fraud.. also go bother someone else about spelling..

Do you have the original sales receipt that indicates the weight is greater than the actual weight? If yes, then you may be able to prove fraud. If not, then you may be suffering from a case of buyer’s remorse because a merchant can charge whatever they want for their products.

The word is carat, not caret.
