John Greer Auto Sales, AKA US Credit,  had a Jeep Sahara on Ebay which did not sell, so i drove up to look at it this morning. The seats in the jeep were not the sahara seats which caught my attention immediately. Upon inspecting the stickers on the side of the jeep, the jeep sticker had normal wear to the edges of it, the sahara sticker however looks brand new, with no wear whatsoever. This seemed suspicious and the salesguy was very ready for me to leave when I started asking questions. The VIN Number  on the Jeep is 1J4FY19S4XP463607, upon doing a little more reseach I discovered this is a Jeep Wrangler Sport, not a Sahara. I also found an advertisment from a different car dealer, for this same VIN number who had the jeep several months before John Greer did, The previous dealership advertised it as a Sport, not a Sahara. this would make it appear that John Greer was the one who put the false Sahara sticker on this jeep. Be very careful whan looking at cars on this lot, I am not sure honesty is a priority.

"Honest mistake"?

AUTHOR: TR - (United States)

POSTED: Sunday, September 23, 2018

Seems to me, a simple check of the VIN would provide all of the information on the type of vehcle in question prior to posting it for sale. To do otherwise is nothing more than laziness and sets you up for lawsuits for deliberate misrepresentation.  Either take pride in your business and your work or get out of the business.

Update...

AUTHOR: kb - (United States of America)

POSTED: Wednesday, January 13, 2010

I received a call from someone that identified himself as a manager at John Greer Auto sales, he thanked me over and over for pointing out this issue, stating that they never would have found the problem if i had not pointed it out to them. I asked why the dealer insisted it was a sahara when i pointed out the sport seats on the lot and why he insisted that saharas came with many seats including that one. The caller told me that he was not there and so cannot say for sure, but everyone has a bad day now and then and he is so sorry that this happened. I asked if the false sticker had been removed, the caller said no, that it was attempted but started to peel the paint, and he was not going to have to repaint that part of the jeep for a mistake that was not his. I pointed out that there had to be an easy way to remove and replace stickers as someone had already done it when the sport sticker was replaced with a sahara sticker. the replacement was completed without damage to the jeep not very long ago. He said there may be, but he was not going to do it, rather he would have the buyer sign a paper that said identified the jeep as a Sport. He said they pruchased the jeep believing it to be a sahara and did not notice that it was not until I pointed it out. I suggested that since they are already aware of this deceptive practice of changing out stickers that maybe they should check that when  buying vehicles. It seems odd to be aware of such a practice, yet not notice it. The pictures with the sahara sticker and label have been taken off the john greer website, the description correctly describes the jeep as a sport. On ebay, the jeep is described as a sport, while the sahara stickers remain on the jeep in the pictures. I cannot proove who placed the stickers or who knew or didn't know about it. What I can say is- be very careful and do very careful research when shopping for a used car.

BBB response from John Greer Auto Sales

We have not lied. Just because Douglas Jeep had it online as a Sport model does not mean that between then and the time they took it to the auction they did not add the decal. This is not uncommon and we missed it. That we are guilty of. The vehicle is going back on eBay tonight as a Sport model. The vehicle is no longer being advertised as a Sahara. I can't remember the last time or if we have had any complaints against our company and this is starting to resemble a case of someone having too much time on their hands. The correction has been made and we appreciate of being notified of the error.

AND SO why are pictures still online (at http://www.jgas.us/vehicledetails.aspx?VID=107205359 ) of the jeep with the Sahara sticker on the sides of it and a big heading that identifies the Jeep as a Sahara??? How many times can one man or company repeat "honest mistake" while continuing with the false advertising before it starts to look ridiculous? As far as the Ebay listing goes, yes they did change remove the heading identifying the jeep as a Sahara, but the many pics of the sahara sticker.... are each of those an honest mistake as well?? Considering that the John Greer Auto Dealer stated that falsely applying stickers to vehicles is a common practice, they apparently are aware this happens, yet did not bother to check if the Sahara they were buying really was a Sahara... and even stranger, they should know how to remove these falsely placed stickers.... as it is not uncommon for this to occur accoridng to them!

Honest Mistake

AUTHOR: John Greer Auto Sales - (United States of America)

POSTED: Thursday, January 07, 2010

We purchased the vehicle as being represented as a Sahara model. We were unaware that it was not a Sahara. The vehicle in question is now being advertised as a Sport model, which it is. This was an honest mistake, and we were not trying to mislead anybody. Our dealership has been in business since 1957 and we maintain a 100% positive feedback rating on eBay with over 3,000 completed vehicle sales. If you have any questions please feel free to contact us at 941-751-3303.
