On June 7, 2003 my wife and I were married outside of Charleston at Kiawah Island, SC. Our photographer was King Street Photo managed by Michel Berda. The short story is that he said he lost our pictures but refused to pay any damages because he was "broke". He claims that his business is bankrupt yet he is still receiving numerous clients, mostly over the internet. This ripoff report is to warn anybody looking for a Charleston Photographer to think twice before using Michel Berda and/or King Street Photo. I have names of several others with similar stories like mine. Unfortauntely, I didn't know before we paid, or I would have avoided this Charleston Photographer. If you need further information about Charleston Photographer, King Street Photo, or Michel Berda please contact me.

#2 Consumer Comment
I agree King Street Photo was a horrible experience

I wish someone had told me. I hope Michel, you use these comments to change your business ethics and/or remove yourself from the wedding industry.
This was my absolute nightmare. I wish I wish I read the reviews before hiring Michel Berda, Kingstreet photo.
Everything was moving along so smoothly. The caterer, my DJ, my coordinator were so helpful and just an amazing part of my day I couldn't have asked for a better crew.
Until I started to receive indescribable, uncontrolled rants from my photographer from hell. This man was completely off his rocker.
Just a little taste of some of the things he said to me right before my wedding. "My emails have spelling errors, I have never dealt with people like this before", and the last one that blew my mind, two days before my wedding, "I just don't think I can do this wedding, I am a master artiste you know. " What the heck does that mean anyway???
All I'm thinking at this point is....Oh my god I already paid this crazy person thousands of dollars. My entire team and family rushed to find a backup photographer. All this because he didn't like the way I worded my timeline. This wedding was completely about him and having us satisfy him. He seemed interested and focused on my wedding until I paid him the money.
I'm in tears by this time and never said a word back to this man, in fear he would take all my money. I splurged and gave him money I had to save for. If I fired him (in contract) I would forfeit all my money.
I was holding back my husband and father. My MIL stepped in and said she will handle it. She spent an entire day of back and forth phone calls, insults and bizarre behavior from Michel. After she was done she ended up going to the hospital for high blood pressure and a broken capillary in her eye, that she sported the day of the wedding.
I couldn't get a good night sleep at all. Now he has my precious wedding photos and he won't release them with out a payment of $2,500.
By the way there are 8 positive reviews, that were filtered, because he made them himself. They are back to back on and around the same date. I promised myself while I let him insult me and carry on that I would not allow another bride to go through what I did. I am left with this forever.

a very sad Bride

#1 UPDATE EX-employee responds
False Allegation against a employee of the company
AUTHOR: Michel - (U.S.A.)
SUBMITTED: Friday, July 08, 2005
I Michel Berda was a employee of Menu Design Inc doing business as king street photo.
If you do a corporate search for Menu Desing inc DBA KING STREET PHOTO YOU WILL NOTICE THE OWNER OF THE COMPANY. King Street Photo Weddings and Menu Design Inc DBA king street photo are two different companys.
I did not photograph their wedding . I am aware of the situation because I worked for the company, and I am sorry that it happened to the customer. However he is making false allegation, he has the original files his Wedding at a low resolution. As for the statement of it being my company, or that I was broke is false. I will take immediate legal action, against the person who posted this and I would advise rip off report to investigate ,tthe customers allegation, before posting false and untrue allegations. I will also take action towards any listing that brings my company for loss of business for untrue statemens.
