Getting tired of my old job due to being underpaid for ridiculous amounts of work and long hours, I went on a job hunt. In the paper, I found an ad in the general section for a job that paid $600 a week and were hiring from Management postions on down. I call and they tell me where to go for the interview.

Okay, I get there and I hand over my resume. He scans it a bit and then tells me I got the job. Hmm, I bit too easy, me thinks. I thought about it, then shrugged it off 600 a week sure beat 200, right? Okay, so I got to orientation. the guy there says the base pay is 450 a week instead of 600, like the ad said. Okay, no harm done. It's still double what my other job was paying me.

We're shown the vaccuum, taught how to put it together and all, then given the "It really sells itself" speech. Honestly, I get sucked in. Okay, so I end up quitting my old job since I have a job that pays 450 as base pay. The guy said that we would get that whether we made sales or not.

The paychecks are distriubuted on Mondays and about two weeks go by. I didn't collect mine yet, so when I did, it was missing. So I ask about it. And the first thing the guy asks me is, "Did you make any sales?" I nodded. I made two sales, but I asked what difference did it make to the pay check since the base pay was $450. And that when he said, "What are you talking about? There IS no base pay."

I was PISSED. They tricked me into quitting a job that was stressful a*s hell, but at least had the decency to pay me for working.

I spent days and many nights going in and out of houses to do those stupid demos. I mean I wouldn'd get back home until 11pm sometimes after leaving the house 8 or so in the morning. I worked SIX days a week for those clowns and all I got for my work was a check for friggin $25! I spent the next 5 months after that finding a new job as my phone was cut off and all my other monthly bills pilled up on me. I have a job now, but thinking about how the Kriby company screwed me over makes me want to break one of those $1600 machines over their heads.

If Kirby offers you a job, folks, just say NO.

Wow, Its amazing

Lol I think the most amazing thing about these Kirby defenders on here is that all of their speaches sound exactly the same! They all talk about the "pride" of working for a 90 year old company and they all look down on college kids and 9-5 jobs! LOL I really think that most of these people that post a defense for Kirby are actual employees or owners in the local area. They talk about "hard work" but fail to mention it is slave work. LOL when I went to the local distributor here in Kissimmee Florida, they lied about the job. They said it would be a customer service job answering the phones for people that are having a problem using their products. Oh, and the trainer did stress that even if you didnt make any sales, you'd still get paid 2100 a month. What she didn't say or what most people there didn't catch on is the fact that she didn't say anything about if you don't meet your demo quota for the week or month. LOL I am going to start calling them out and am thinking on my off time of parking in front of their office (there are other businesses there as well like food places so I can legitimately be buying something there) and telling everyone that is going in for an interview that they are a fraud and a scam. I remember the second day of training me and a few others were standing outside and these two people walk out of the interview office area and we ask them what they told them they would be doing. The girl said that the secretary didnt wanna say, even after the girl asked if they were selling Kirby Vacuums!!!!!Lol its almost funny if some people didnt actually believe it. There was one girl in training that I felt so bad for because she was eating it all up! SHe seriously thought she was going to be rich. Either that, or she was an employee with the company trying to convince everyone else how legit it was lol. Although I will say this, I would definately boink a couple of the women in there the ones that are managers....

Your both Right

AUTHOR: Averteddisaster - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, November 14, 2007

The first guy sums up about 10000 complaints with the same issue concerning kirby and or its distributers when he says this:
"The fact is..I can tell you, most Kirby people were hired just to sell a Kirby to their parents or loved ones. but there are a few people who do it for years."

This is true. And maybe some of these "distributers" actually tell the employees when they interview them: "This is a 100%commision based job sir, hours are apt to be long and hard with no guaranteed pay, but if you work hard you can make the-skys-the-limit sir, that the "set up - Display" advertised is really a vacume in someones home who may or may not even be aware what the hell was happening,
that the appoitments are really a sales pitch appoitment, ect
Maybe.
Doubtfull. Espically with all the letters proclaiming the same thing-that they were decieved, as I was. 1000's out there.
Period.
Most job ads, interviews, and the "your hired" calls are definatly misleading. If they were not, there would not be complaints about it, Or in this high number saying the same thing, About dozens, maybe hundreds of "distributers of Kirby Vacumes".

I wont even mention the complaints about how the salesman actually GOT the "appoitment"

Simple as that. So even if Kirby has the Best Vacume in the galaxy, and they do care any iota about the consumer, they could choose to either:
- let these distributers simply open a outlet where consumers can purchase them. and get service or whatever. This still keeps the main employers that push the product employed and the secrateries. Most salesmen as we have seen dont last long, if even past the "Training" routine at any rate.
This also prevents the vacume from being Mass Sold everywhere which they appearently dont want to do.
(Not exactly a popular business trend lately)
(Strange it seems to me)
(There must be some reason they still go through all this hassle)
(It usually seems to be $$$, but whom am I to speculate?)

OR

They sell the damm thing everywhere, (can you imagine the stacks of them at a home depot or lowes?) Like most everyone else. Make a boatload. I am a vacume pro and i dont considder the market to exactly be saturated. If their that good they would sell. I would probly have one. But $1300, $1200, $1000.00? Go Blow.

OR

They set up correct distributers, with correct info, and who hire real people to sell vacumes.
Name the distributer Kirby - It is the only product sold is it not? Like Verizon.
Privetly owned and operated, but it follows a certain sales plan.
Have maybe SOMETHING, ANYTHING in the "distributer's" location. Posters, Ads, Business cards, Stationary for gods sake. Something indicating their proud to distribute a good product.
Why would they not do any of these things?
They must make big bucks off this. Now Im no expert, but heres an idea:
If dirt devil sells 1,000,000 units at say $500.00 (going price for a good vacume) thats 500,000,000

Since Kirbys are sold at anywhere from 1000 to 1800 or so, if they sell 1,000,000 for lets say 900 - the cheapeast most people say, thats 900,000,000 to over a billion for the same amount of product. And how is this revenue generated? How many of these sell for cash? Its mostly either a credit card, or worse extended credit that pays for these. And again at NO set price. 900? 2100? who knows. who regulates? who knows?

But the whole thing blows, even if the vacume does suck good.

I understand you're ticked about the lack of pay, but there's nothing wrong with the vac

AUTHOR: Tired Of This Sh*t - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, July 21, 2007

I had to crack up when I read the bit about the price of the vac itself. Is it the vacs fault that this guy got ripped off? NO. Actually, and I AM NOT defending kirby distributors here, I have purchased 2 in the past 16 years. One the year I got married and one 4 and a half year ago. The first one still works fine.

Yes, I paid $1600 for it. However, in the first four years I owned it, my own mother purchased 3 different $300 vacuums which all broke eventually. OKAY. so she's spent $900 on vacs in 4 years. I spent $1600 on one 16 years ago and it still works fine. Do the math, no one is getting ripped off by buying one of these.

I purchased a second one 4 1/2 years ago when we moved into a home with three floors. I have bad knees and it's difficult to lug the heavy thing up and down 2 flights of stairs. And although the distributor who sold me the dang thing calls about once a month trying to sell me bags and carpet shampoo, they did knock $600 off the price because I already owned one.

No complaints here. Just saying. don't attack a perfectly good product. It had nothing to do with your problem!

I lived next door to a Kirby Office

AUTHOR: Marktime - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, July 21, 2007

I used to live in the office next door to the Kirby distributor in my area. I was an entrepeneur and for a few months slept in my office, as I got my business of the ground. (I know, weird, but I was a real go getter).

Those poor Kirby salesman, they would sing their songs, get abused by their managers, tell stories about how they ripped people off. It's all been documented in many places on the internet, and I can tell you its true.

These poor people get so brain washed. They tell people they are getting $25 for putting on demonstrations. they aren't getting paid anything. They tell people the distributors are honest. they aren't honest. They tell people its a felony to buy a Kirby off e-bay. you can buy one off e-bay for $300, its completely legal. They write in to confirm that they, even a distributor cannot even buy one for $600. when distributors buy them new for about $350.

They say these things, because they think its protecting their jobs, and they are going to be rich someday.

I find it ironic, that there, seperated by one thin wall, were people working 18 hours a day to get rich one day. one with an idea about running his own computer business, and others...with ideas about selling $1800 vacuum cleaners to old ladies who cannot afford it. Who do you think made it?

The fact is..I can tell you, most Kirby people were hired just to sell a Kirby to their parents or loved ones. but there are a few people who do it for years. I knew one, he was a friend of mine. But he worked 80 hours a week, and lived in slum housing. He never got rich. and when his health forced him into a 40 hour work week, he was unceremoniously fired. Thank goodness. THe job made hima misereable monster.

If you are here today, to write in a defend kirby. don't. Stop, and instead think about making a positive change in your life, so when you look back 20 years from now. it wasn't wasted on making your distributor wealthy. he is the only one getting rich.

"MY KIRBY DISTRIBUTOR ALWAYS PAYS THE $600 WEEK SALARY!!"

AUTHOR: John - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, July 19, 2007

I am responding to the person saying say no to working for Kirby! I have worked for Kirby as a sales rep for the last 5 years in Newhampshire and I have never see any one get ripped off or not people not getting there pay.

Working for Kirby is one of the biggest oppourtunity in America right now. What planet are you on? The Kirby Company has mad more self made millionares under 30 then any other company in the world and i the #1Direct sales company in the world.

It is an honor to work for a 90 plus year old company and I find it funny when I read people saying they got "ripped off" on there pay checks. Most of the people who I am reading about are probably college kids who have been partying for the last 4 years on mommy and daddys money and now cant find a job after college that pays more than 7bucks an hour and a year later they wind up in applying for Kirby.

I see these kids come in all the time, they act like they are too good for Kirby and do not take the opportunity seriously. 90percent of them have horrible work ethic, bad credit and are in debt thousands after 4years of school, then we tell them that if you put on the demos you will get your salary.

These Kids do not want to work, they want to do half a*s demonstrations and get out at 2 in the afternoon everyday and then when payday comes there expecting there salary for half the work!! But what these people who are complaining arent telling you is that there are thousands of people in Kirby making a very honorable living.

The fact is working for Kirby is awesome, the people I work with in my office truely have a passion for what they do and make it a priority to put the customer first. I feel very proud to work for such a successfull American Company and I would recommend any one looking to start a career who has a great WORK ETHIC,ATTITUDE and a love for WORKING WITH OTHERS to call you local Kirby distributor and set up an interview.

Our distribution center in N.H. starts out our entry level sales reps at$650.week salary. So again for any one reading all these complaints from "FORMER EMPLOYEES" try Kirby for yourself and make your own decision, I dont know where my family and I would be with out the KIRBY COMPANY.

Sincerly, 5 year employee.

Thank you for throwing in you two cents WITHOUT understanding the entire situation. I'm sure you'll make a great lawyer one day. First of all, I signed NOTHING. Explain to me how it's MY fault when this so called contract DIDN'T even come into play? I guess the force is acting up on ya, Luke. Now, basically no Kirby salesman is good because the machine is a ripoff whether you realize it or not. It costs 1600. Now if the company make 1200 on it, I only get 25 of it after I did ALL the work during the presentation? Sorry, I'm callin' bullshit on this one.

The whole thing s a complete rip. You can get a perfectly good vac for $300 and be done with it. spending over that much for a vac is just ridiculous to begin with, let along a price over $1000.

Unless they foced me to sign a paper at gunpoint and wiped my memory afterwards, I can't agree with you, but I guess from your response, you'd know better than me, right? Yeah, you're a Kirby expert, but I mearly the person that was actually THERE. I guess you told me.

AUTHOR: Bryan - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, September 25, 2005

Unfortunately there are some crooked distributors in Kirby and I appologize on their behalf. They give us all a bad name. But most aren't like that. On the other side of the coin, though... DUDE! EVERY SALESPERSON THERE SIGNS A CONTRACT THAT MAKES YOUR JOB THERE CLEAR. DID YOU SIGN IT WITHOUT READING IT??? HELLO?!? I admit they did you wrong and I've seen what you mention happen first hand. But I didn't blame people who weren't involved... I just went to one of the honest distributors and worked there and made lots of money! Even at the crooked one, though, I knew what the deal was because it's in the contract. You should have read yours!
