I recently purchased an updated EasyShare digital camera to replace another EasyShare that was given to me & began having the same problem with the new one: They battery door is designed poorly on these cameras! When you insert batteries, they do not "sit" correctly in the battery compartment therefore causing pressure on the door which led to a split right down the middle of the battery door (my first one did the same exact thing).
When I visited the webiste for warranty information, I was given a "return authorization" number, authorized dealer for repair, shipped my camera and was billed over $100.00 for repair by this "authorized company" receiving my camera. They tell me that Kodak will NOT pay for the damage because my camera damage was deemed "customer misuse".
When I contacted KODAK to resolve this, they said they take ONLY the word of the repair company and not the customer. So, if I decide not to have my camera repaired by this company (UNITED CAMERA AND BINOCULAR REPAIR) then I have to send them $50.00 JUST TO GET MY CAMERA BACK unrepaired!! The whole thing is a joke and I will NEVER, EVER purchase another KODAK camera again.

I had some NiMH AA batteries that were larger enough in diameter (very very slightly larger) than a "standard" AA battery that they would not readily fit into a compartment designed for standard AA batteries. Forcing these NiMH AA batteries into position would have caused problems. Did you use 'non-Kodak' replacement batteries that might have been ever so slightly oversize?
