I am glad I googled LVAC, consumer protection laws today and was amazed to see the number of people writing to Rip-Off Report about this gym. I wonder how many people have had problems with LVAC?
I had deaths in my family end of May-early June and I packed up from Vegas and closed down my life within 2 weeks, including drafting a letter to LVAC cancelling my membership and asking what all I needed to do. I am also unemployed so paying an out of state gym membership when I already requested a cancellation is not something I am able to pay for. They wrote me a rather abrupt email saying they refuse to cancel and that they needed all sorts of information. I sent three letters to them, including a copy of my new out-of-state driver's license and lease. I closed down the bank account in Vegas in which LVAC was automatically paid from a month after I cancelled.
What amazed me is when I went to open a new bank account, that they had flagged my credit report which translated into my bank putting me into a different account package. They did all of this within 30 days! This all was in June. It is now November and I am receiving another letter from them, at my new address, stating my cancellation request is INCOMPLETE, and that they must receive $140.00 past due AND a $50.00 cancellation fee and that my regular scheduled monthly payments will continue. Given what I have read about them, I hesitate to pay them any more money, and they have already affected my credit. I would be willing to be placed in a class action suit. I do not believe that a corporation can have that much power, and continue to charge, and write monthly letters, and affect credit scores when my total monthly bill was $22 per month. What is the best resolution?
