Having my own, brand new home has been a life-long dream. Little did I know that choosing a home to be built by Legacy would quickly turn my dream into a nightmare!
The construction of the home is equivalent to pick-up sticks. The walls are not straight, walls have cracks forming after a year, nails are coming through, weeds grow from the siding of the house into the inner baseboards of my home, and we have more creatures inside our home than the local zoo!
After being excited about closing on this home that I did not know was a massive dump, I pulled up with a moving truck full of my belongings only to enter a brand new home with no working air conditioning for either unit, no screens on any of the windows (up or down) to help endure the heat until it could be fixed, no hot water from the kitchen sink for more than three weeks, and the worst of all, the house was never cleaned.
Roaches, spiders, cigarettes and ashes, dust, debree, beer cans/bottles... just to name a few of what I had to begin cleaning in the heat of July before the moving truck could be unloaded. Had I not made such a major move from another state, this deal needed to be undone.
Little did I know, that was only the beginning of what I already thought was bad. When I hear popular radio personalities promoting this builder and their quality of work, it is alarming. The public needs to be aware of what they are sinking their money into and not be deceived!
The warantee department sent workers that do not speak or understand English very well, which leads to frustration for the homeowner and the worker. Holes have been cut in my kitchen ceiling due to "crimped" pipes leading into my son's bedroom upstairs. Only to be left that way for days.
When they were supposedly repaired, the repainted area is now a different color from the rest of the ceiling. On the note of holes, a worker cut a large hole in my other child's bedroom wall, right by his bed, and left live wires hanging out and exposed in an attempt to fix the air conditioning unit outside the house for the second time.
For the first year of living in this pretend house, our diswasher leaked over the cheap linoleum flooring and warantee was of little to no help. Blame was bounced from company that installed the gargage disposal to the company of the dishwasher, to the plumber. Nobody wanted to own up to the problem or fix the problem. A new dishwasher has eventually been installed after numerous phone calls and days of leaving work early to meet a repair person.
To those of you reading this article, please, I beg of you, do not buy a legacy home. They may offer sizable square footage which caught our eye too quickly, but the space is not worth the poor quality. This has been a hard experience for my entire family and it is sickening to know that a builder can legally get away with building and earning a profit on this type of shotty work!
