In May 2014, I signed up for a free 7 day trial on Legalcontract.com, wondering if I could save a few legal fees by downloading a contract. I looked at a few contracts, decided to hire a lawyer instead, then cancelled my agreement with Legalcontact.com... Meaning, as far as I knew, I cancelled my contract. "Great," I thought, "I checked out the service. It's not for me. Now I will be on my merry way, with no fees incurred."

In February 2015, I was review my bank statements (as the self-employed do, come tax time). I came across a $33.00 recurring monthly fee from Legalcontracts.com. Reucrring since, June 2014, a total of charge of $297.00. "Gosh," I thought, "There must have been an error." Immediately, I psigned on to the site (for the first time since cancelling my account) processed a request for a refund. I figured it should be simple enough, seeing as how I hadn't used one service, or logged onto the account, since briefly using my "free trial" and immediately cancelled the service that I didn't intend to use...

But no... Legalcontracts.com had no record of my cancellation. They told me it was my fault, that I must have cancelled incorrectly. They didn't care that my point was proven in not using their services. They didn't believe in the possibility of an error on their end. They sent me a lengthy email, reminding me of the contract to which I was bound. They gave me a three month "courtesy" refund, and essentially told me, they would gladly take my money for services I totally didn't use-- because that's whay the contract says we can do.

The respresentative (and emails they sent) stated that their system could only process refund up to 58 days back. Nevermind, that they had just processed a "courtesy refund" that was 90 days in retrospect. They reitterated that the "failure to cancel" was my error, not the error of their system. I was told there was no one else with whom I could speak-- the customer services representatives report directly to the unnamed CEO.

I looked up the business address online to see that the business was located in a track home in Palm Dessert. The representatives to whom I was speaking were located in Canada. They gave me an additional address in Los Angeles.

There is something, many things actually, about this company and their die-hard wish to charge a customer for unrendered services that feels extremely fishy and unethical, to me. Beware of Legalcontract.com and also, Lawdepot.com (the name of the site that was listed in emails I received when I reached out to the Legalcontracts.com).
