I recieved a voicemail saying that my loan was approved. I had been searching and searching for a loan and always denied so naturally I was optimistic about this. I called the number back first thing in the morning, all of my information was verified without me having to say a word so of course I believed that they were legit because I had been applying for loans all week and it was no surprise they had my information. The guy told me I have bad credit so I need to "verify" I had the monthly payment in my account right now. I asked how so he said to get a Vanilla Reload Prepaid Card and load $200 onto the card. Like a person in desperate need of a loan I did.
I asked, "why do I need to get a card it makes no sense."
He said, "just to verify that you have this money."
I said, 'ok but what happens to the card?'
He says, "nothing you can sit this in a safe place to use later if you want on groceries or whatever"
I said, "oh i read a scam about a greendot card so I am just trying to cover my ground over here, of course he told me that greendot card is for scammers and If I suggested using one he would hang up on anyone who did because this is not how they do buisness."
I went out and bought a vanilla card and did this, he said how about this so you are certain I wont ask for all the numbers to the card instead I will only for a the last 9. I told him there are only 10 numbers buddy and I an assuming all these cards start with the same number. He seemed a little annoyed by this. I said a quick prayer and of course he said ok hold on let me verify this and I will transfer your money. I never used any type of prepaid card but was an idiot to the process. '
Whille waiting for the transfer to "go through" I now decided to do some research something I should have done before. I typed in Vanilla reload card scams and sure enough this very scam came up and by several people immediately I felt sick to my stomach. I immediately went to the reload card website and saw the money taken out. Still on hold the guy comes back and says just what everyone else said he would, "there was an issue with my bank" I went on to tell him that I noticed the money has been taken and he assured me it was to put back into my account.
He said I notice that your voice change and I said because I am realizing I am just being scammed I see this scam all over the internet. He of course told me that everyone else is upset because they didn't go through with the western union so now they are upset. I said I'm done just give me my 200 back he kept pressing me using western union and paying the fee that would be refunded in a few days through a check. We argued for about 15mins all about this I even told him give me your employee number and let me call lending club and see if he is an employee.
He said I will not because they will think there is a problem and I could get fired. I said you cant refuse this information to me as a legit company. He was persistant in trying to get me to do the western union transfer. Obviously thinking i was an idiot as i previously was. I then lied and said I have lending club on the other line they say they don't deal with vanilla cards, he told me the company on the phone was lying further trying to insult my intelligence. In the end he got my money, and this was money I could not afford to lose. I just moved to san diego and I don't have a job no family and now I am set back money. I hope to find a job soon but this is a serious burn for me.
