I stopped in at my local Les Schwab to have tires installed on my vehicle. After shopping around (including at Les Schwab), I purchased tires elsewhere because the selection and prices at the local tire store were not competitive.
I drop the car off to have my tires installed. Upon getting the car back, I find myself repeatedly questioned by the service manager...
Where did you get those tires? Why did you buy them there?
Then I'm told that my bill is kind of high because I'm getting charged for things that normally would come with the tire IF I had bought tires from Les Schwab. So apparently, there are two different prices for the exact same labor at Les Schwab. Perhaps if you buy tires from them, they throw in politeness and customer service too, but don't bet on it.

Try a Steak house Lately?

What you are asking Les Schwab to do is service someone else product. There is no difference in buy a steak at Walmart for $7.00 and then trying to take it into your favorite steakhouse and asking them to grill it up for free cause they want $15 for their steak. No service company I have every seen works for free. I would dare to say that Les Schwab is far and in between. I know for a fact as long as your a loyal customer majority of the time they are gonna take care of you. For free. But buying tires or brakes somewhere else and then expecting them to do all your work FOR FREE is a slap in the face to them. Yes times are hard and everyone needs to save a dollar. But you also get what you pay for and Les Schwab is top notch service you should expect to probly pay more. You cant walk into Baby Gap and expect to pay the same price as you would at shopko/kmart.

It just baffles the mind to think that these people expect the shop owners to work for nothing. Are you a regular customer that spends money there? My guess would be NO. Believe ir not, Newsflash!!! Shops are in buissness to make money, not friends. Im sure if you were not such a tightwad and were a customer there that they would have no problen taking care of you. What do you do for a living?

Amazing

It's amazing to me that anyone would have the guts to buy tires somewhere else and then expect a local tire dealer to install them.
A local repair facility who doesn't sell ties might be a better choice.
There are some companies like Tire Rack that you can buy tires on the Internet from. They then have arrangements with many local companies to install them. That way the company gets something from the transaction.
They are more than justified in charging you more than they charge an actual customer tire customer.
A good relationship with a dealer should be a two way street.

robert is so right, why should les schwab mount your stuff for free or so little cost??? its amazing to me how many people expect something for nothing... you complain about paying your bills, what about the employees that work there??? they have bills to pay also... also i hear people constantly complain about the rising prices of tires(e.g. wow, thats so much, when i bought tires last time they were so much less) the price of everything is going up(gas, food, living costs) and yet you want your tires to stay the same price??? you are all ridiculous!!

Why should they?

There is no benefit to the shop to do anything with stuff you bought from somewhere else.
Try taking a steak to a restaurant to cook. Take material to a tailor. Take bandages, etc to the hospital. You know that will not fly, but everyone expects the auto repair facility to just accept the stupidity.

This happens quite often at other Les Schwab stores as well. I also had this happen on two separate occasions when I wanted tires ( Ebay purchase) mounted on rims ( also Ebay). Both times I was asked if I bought the rims and tires at Les Schwab and , after telling them "No", they started loading the unmounted wheels and tires into the back of my truck. They told me to take them back where I purchased them and have them mounted there. When I explained they were purchased from locations elsewhere in the united States, they finally relented. The experiences were not good so I know patronize a competitor to have these tasks performed.
