In January 2005 my husband was contacted by Liberty Benefits Group via his cell phone. They wanted him to pay $299.99 for a credit card. I cautioned him against it and told him to find out more information.

He asked the person on the telephone if it was a "catalogue" credit card, ya know, the ones that you get to purchase only from their magazine. They said no sir its a real credit card. He said, I can use this credit card anywhere. They proceeded to tell him that he would could use the card anywhere visa/mc was accepted. They told him he could choose which card he would like. They said it was a one time fee to be taken out of our checking account.

We would receive the credit card within 4-5 days and it would be for a credit limit of $2,500.00. He asked for all the above information in writing to be sent to me at my email or via fax before he gave them the bank account information. They said they would do him one better, they would send an entire package with the credit card explaining everything. Well he was suckered...he gave them the information.

They did not hesitate taking the money out of our accout, it was taken the next morning. They did however hesitate in sending this credit card and package. My husband bugged them for two weeks strait asking when we would receive it...they kept saying only a few more days and we will send it out.

Yesterday I was fed up, it had been a month and we were still getting jerked around and no package, or credit card. Always feeling that it seemed to good to be true I googled the telephone number. Of course right into the ripoffreport.com it took me and I read many of declarations about the same thing happening to them. I immediately had my husband call the company and call them out! They claimed they had no idea what we were talking about...they assured him that it was legitamate credit card and that everything I had read was lies. They said that we would receive the package either yesterday or today.

Well we finally got the package. NO CREDIT CARD! Are you suprised...I'm not. All my husband can do is say he's sorry. He called the company after I wigged out on him for a while and they said well, you can send the package back to us and call us on March 4th, then we will refund your money minus the shipping.

1. Why would anyone pay 299.99 for a package of flyers
2. Why would you send back the package when this is your proof
3. Why should I have to wait an entire month for my money back.
4. Why should I have to pay the shipping for something I did not want nor ask for...all he wanted was a credit card!

Needless to say this is all very aggrivating and more stress to a very stressfull life. Maybe now my husband will learn the important lesson of ALWAYS GET IT IN WRITING, and IF IT SEEMS TO GOOD TO BE TRUE IT PROBABLY IS!

I have contacted the bank and I'm waiting to hear back at this point...I can only immagine what kind of mess this is going to be to get the money back. Writing this was my next step. I plan to do all that I can so hopefully this doesn't happen to anyone else.

If you are reading this because you have all ready paid the money...don't wait to get the package, just stop everything now!!! GOOD LUCK!

EDitor's Suggestions on how to get your money back!

HERE IS WHAT RIP-OFF REPORT SUGGESTS YOU DO:

Go to your bank within 60 days of the charge, or as soon as you know about the charge, don't delay, and tell them that there has been fraudulent activity within your account. Explain that you wish to file a dispute, and demand that they assist you in accordance with Federal Regulation E.

According to the majority of victims interviewed by Rip-off Report, those who immediately called their banks to dispute the charges did not get very far. Many victims got the following responses from their banks: we could not do anything for you or you waited too long; it has been more than 60 days.

If the bank is says that you have waited too long, explain to them how you called their 800 number as soon as the charges were found, and were told by the bank that nothing could be done. Remind the bank that they failed to assist you properly at the 800 #, and instead, provided you with an inadequate explanation of your right to dispute. Tell the bank that it's their fault time has expired, and since they gave you the wrong info to begin with, they will just have to deal with it, take the loss and reverse the charges.

Tell them the truth; this was unauthorized and your account was NOT to be charged! Keep emphasizing how you never authorized anything! Direct them to the hundreds of victims reports that were filed on Rip-off Report.com. And if you're at the bank, walk them over to their computer and make them go to this site! If you are on the phone with them, tell them you will wait while they access this site! Either way, be persistent!

DO NOT TAKE NO FOR AN ANSWER!

Let them know nicely, that you were advised to Report them (the Bank) and this situation to the Banking Commission in your state. Since each state has a different name for the agency/controller over banks, find that name before you call or get to the bank so you can throw it in their face. The more knowledgeable you appear to be, the further you will get.

And just continue to demand the Federal Regulation E form! The bank CAN, MUST and WILL reverse the charge! But, you must be persistent; ask to speak to the supervisor or the area manager for all the branches in the state.

Let the bank personnel know you are meeting with the media later in the day, that you would much rather they do the right thing (as most other banks have) by looking at the complaints and immediately reversing the charge(s) to your account; no matter how long ago it was. Be sure to call the Media if necessary so you are telling the truth.

If you have to, be loud (but nice) in front of other customers. If you are just calling by phone, the above tactics should still work. The bank can easily fax or mail to you the Federal Regulation E dispute form.

CHARGES TO YOUR CREDIT CARD

If the charge was to your credit card (not debit card, check card, or checking account), contact the credit card company as soon as possible to request a dispute form. Consumers usually have a little longer to dispute fraudulent credit card charges (up to 6 months), but it is better to act right away. In this type of situation, credit card disputes are usually successful since fraudulent companies often won't contest the disputed charge. In rare cases, credit card companies will review disputes, but refuse to reverse the charges. If this occurs, complain to a manager and let them know you will be filing a report here.

Remember Don't let them get away with it! Make sure they make the Rip-off Report .. The more Reports filed on a Company or individual, the more likely it is that the authorities, media and attorneys will want to take action.

And good luck Let us know how you do!

I got the refund after much work

AUTHOR: Barbara - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, February 16, 2005

Stephanie,
I did not give up....it was not easy, but constantly calling. The company you are calling as you are probably aware is contracted by Liberty Benefits Group. A supervisor called me and she could not believe my file. She said her jaw dropped and she refunded me the money in 2 business days. I told them that I was going to inform Visa, MasterCard, BBB, Attorney General of Delaware and New Hampshire, send notices into local newspapers in West Lebanon, NH, Today Show, Good Morning America, etc.... I continuously told them this and stated that the only reason I am telling them is because they are representing a company that is scamming many people throughout the USA and enough is enough. Tell them every time you call and keep calling - every day. Ask to speak with a supervisor and stay on hold, who cares. After 5 min say you will call back and do so. When you do, ask the person if the previous person put notes on your account and make sure they recite them to you. If they do not, make sure you tell this person the same thing and ask to speak with a supervisor again. It is a lot of work, but I got my money back. If anyone ever needed my testimony or anything I will be there!
Best of luck to you,
