LL Bean the sporting giant is also a villian when it comes to their own employees. The customers who visit their clean well stocked stores, and who experiance great customer service, dont see behind the scenes. I am sure if they saw Beans labor practices they would be appaled. From the seasonal hires to the regular employees people live in fear, under the watchful eye of Loss Prevention, who are supposed to be preventing theft, but watching for and listening to employees waiting for them to make a mistake. The unfair practice begins, Seasonal employees are used and abused, told they could be hired after their duties are done, only to be let go after their term is up with no chance of ever being called back. Also full time employees live in fear of being terminated so their postions can be filled by part timers to save money. But the real crime is when the older 50 plus employees are overlooked for supervisor positions that are given to the 20 yr old crowd. When you call them out on this they have a meeting with you and assure you this is not true. However we all know it is, they want the young ones so they can be Bean Washed as we like to call it. And when you call them out on it, are wisked into a meeting by your supervisor told that age discriminationis not the practice at Bean. Then a week later you are meeting with human resources and yes loss pervention, or should i say beans version of the gestopo. and just like the Nazis they will find some trumped up excuse to terminate you. So under all the fluff that is LL Bean lurks a seedy darkside, one where employees live a life where they are afraid of voicing their opinions, and bcome no more than worker drones acting, talking, and living under the watchful eye of management. Just ask any employee who is no longer there and they will have the same opinion.
