On May 11, 2002, I went to Lowes and bought an under counter trash bin that pulled out. Along with that trash bin, I bought several other items. The total was $126.+.

On May 22, 2002, I took the trash bin back because it would not fit in my cabinets. When I took it to the refund counter, the girl told me she would give me a store credit. No, I don't want a store credit, I would like to have my money back I said.

She immediately told me that "store policy" was no cash refund on checks for 15 days! Fifteen days! I asked for store manager, he said it was store policy again. He just blew me off! Well, I have to make another 40 mile trip because I was 4 days short of the 15 day policy.

I do not understand why they would let me walk out of the store with $126 worth of merchandise and then not let me take back one $40 item. Between April 27 and May 11, I had spent over $600 with Lowes. Needlessly to say, after I get my refund, I will be shopping somewhere else for my home needs. I think this is poor "store policy" but do the arithemetic on 15 days at $40 and the interest it will draw, over all the Lowes stores that this might happen; and I believe we can better understand the "store policy".

Checks are dead!

AUTHOR: Mike - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, November 29, 2005

No one in business with the public likes checks. Use cash or a credit card and you'll gladly get an instant refund in the same form.

The reason they won't refund cash for checks is that it would attract a certain type of criminal activity. There's only so much that one can do with a trash bin obtained with a bad check. If they can work the store to convert bad checks into cash, they'll take the cash to their favorite corner and buy drugs.

Also of course if Lowes is selling an item for $120, it costs them less than $120 to buy another one wholesale and put it on the shelf. If the buyer's check is bad, they lose less money.

Todays technology

The store is not out to protect themselves because as the consumer stated, they already let them walk out of the store with the merchandise before the same check cleared.

It is about wearing yuo down. If they can give you a hard time or even offer a gift card, they then have you spending the same amount at their stores and not taking the money back. It is about keeping the business in house.

No rip- off here

AUTHOR: chris - ()

It is called protecting yourself from thieves. If the company were to take checks and then the next day refund cash they are liable to be ripped off. You could go in there the night before and write a bad check, be back first thing in the morning and get cash. The bank returns the check and Lowe's is out the money. This is their policy and it makes sense. In the future use a credit card and you will get credit back instantly. I use their credit card and they credit me no prblem. If I lose my receipt I get a gift card back and I spend it on my next pruchase. I see no rip - off
