On 2/18/2011 I had 391.07 available in my account. That Friday Morning a payment for GEICO 217.84,  I had made a purchase at Denny's resturant for the amount of 43.17 and then I went to Ikea and made a purchase for 29.23 late the evening I made a gas purchase for 20.21 and then I made a purchase for Liquor for 48.37.All these purchase was pending my account and the money was set a side and it show available balance of 32.29.On Sunday evening I order oil to be deliver on Tuesday the 2/22/2011 for the amount of 329.00 which at this point I know it would put me in overdraft for 297.71 and this show on my account now I'm overdraft 482.89 they never charge overdraft for the oil. M & T Bank rip me off and the customer services lady (Carol ) had a nerve to said to me this is coming out of her check that why she not reversing it.

So where is the RipOff?

AUTHOR: Robert - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, February 25, 2011
I know it would put me in overdraft for 297.71
- So you INTENTIONALLY attempted to overdraft your account, and think that they were trying to Rip YOU off?

Perhaps you may want to reconsider that line of thought before you post something this dumb again.  It is probably one of two reasons this may have happened.

You "opted-in" to overdraft protection where you give the bank permission to allow you to overddraft your account on Debit Card/ATM transactions.

You didn't "opt-in" but the Oil Purchase was an ACH transaction and that is not covered under the new overdraft regulations.

Then with that Monday being a Federal Holiday nothing you did over the weekend would actually post until Tuesday evening.  Since you ordered the oil for the Tuesday that is when they would have posted it causing the overdraft.

Now, you can blame the banks all you want, and there will be people here who will tell you that you did absolutly nothing wrong in thinking that you would not be hit with all of the fees.  But the fact remains if you didn't INTENTIONALLY overdraft your account you would not have been hit with ANY fees.

Your bank account is NOT a line of credit.  If you want a line of credit to handle cases like this then get a regular credit card.
