Here was my experience. Please note: I still have all noted emails listed below.
April 30, 2013- inquired about a quote for shipping my car from Florida to Ohio on May 27th. Received a quote from Magic Car the same day for $480 (standard shipping).
May 2- I call Magic Car to place the order. Paid the deposit of $135 to have them find a driver to ship the vehicle..the remaining would have to be paid cash to the driver at delivery. I complete an online contract via Docusign. Anthony suggested I change the order to be "first available" versus right on May 27th. I agree because he assures me verbally that the car will be transported before then.
May 9-I send an email to Tony asking on the status. On May 10 he emails back saying he will have a driver within 24-48 hours.
May 16- I email again inquiring on the status of the order and threaten to pull my order on May 18 if I do not get a concrete date of delivery. He replies the same day saying "we would recommend that you have the actual driver carrier secured and committed in picking up your vehicle". I thought that was his job?! So... he gave me a quote, couldn't find a driver to do it for that price, and left me hanging without properly communicating with me.
May 21- Had an incident where I thought the car wouldn't start. It ended up being fine, but I contacted Anthony via email to make sure we could still transport it. He says if it won't start it will be an additional $200 but that he will have a driver within 3-5 days. The car ends up having a minor issue and so this is no longer an additional problem.
May 25-May 29 - Myself and my friend Christina leave messages EVERY DAY for Anthony. He never returns our calls. I have now moved from Florida to Ohio, and my car is still down there.
May 30- I call a different transport company (American) and they arrange for a driver to pick up the car the next day. I cancel the order with Magic Car.
May 31 – MAGICALLY , Magic Car finds a carrier to transport my car (even though I’ve already cancelled the order). Also magically, it’s now going to cost me $650 instead of the original quoted price of $480. I remind Anthony that I've cancelled the order and no longer require his services.
June 1- My car is delivered in Ohio by American Car Transport.
June 5- Still no sign of a refund, and Anthony's message in every email states "If you do a dispute within the 7 to 10 days from your cancellation date you will automatically lose your deposit." I have contacted my credit card company (Capital One) and they will be contacting Magic Car tomorrow in an attempt to get Anthony to refund the money. If he continues to ignore the call, they will put a hold on the money and temporarily credit my account until a further resolution is determined.
Today, July 17- STILL HAVENT BEEN REFUNDED. My credit card company has put a case in, and I filed a claim with the Better Business Bureau. Magic Car tried to tell the BBB that they had refunded my money, which obviously my credit card company knows, they havent. Thank goodness Capital One has given my money back and is handling this for me. We will take further legal action if necessary.
Do NOT hire this company!!!

Marty,
Thank you for responding to this. Unfortunately when I started looking for a company to ship my vehicle, I just filled out an online form and got bombarded with 50+ calls and emails within minutes... I even talked to the guy at Magic Car before I made the deposit and he made no mention that he was a broker and instead assured me my car would be picked up within a week--leading me to believe he wasn't a broker. Ugh... I wish the general public knew how this works. In hindsight, I would have called a trucker directly. I thought I was speaking to a trucker in the begininning. :-(
Thank goodness I paid with a credit card or I'd never see that money again. What a scam! You best believe he will pay it back or he will see me in court and have to pay my court fees AND the difference I had to pay for the other company to transport my vehicle. Karma comes around.. let's just hope others read this before hiring this company.
Thanks again, Melissa

Another great Broker story.

Your third paragraph says it all, for him to find a driver.
You could have just as easly called a trucking company yourself, or found one on the internet.
These brokers are nothing but used car salesmen of the trucking industry, their biggest expense is a computer and a phone while they are taking work from people that have spent 200 grand on one truck.
So what it comes down to he has to keep money coming in so they go thru all the steps but can't find anyone to haul it for the price quoted. Because you didn't get in touch with a trucking company directly none of them will care about your car.
I'm not coming down on you because I know a lot of people don't know the difference between a broker and a trucking company. But there are a lot of people that go to brokers to save money, which is fine when it works, but most truckers don't like brokers so they won't haul for them unless they get desperate.
More and more these brokers are screwing people over, they have done that to truckers for years. Now that they can't get truckers to haul for them they are going to screw the people instead of the truckers.
If you need a trucker, call a trucker, if someone does not own a truck you don't need them, you are only paying the broker for the same effort it took to find the broker when you could have went straight to the people you needed.
If you knew about brokers and tried to save a buck, what did you save? If you honestly didn't know the difference, I hope this helped you out for the future.
Best of luck and God Bless.
Marty
