I moved into my house in June 2007 since it was handicapped friendly for my mother who I had brought to live with me when my father passed away.

In Oct., I noticed a leak from the roof in the garage. Being that the roof is only 3 years old, I called Martin and Sons to honor the 10 year warranty and come fix the roof. They finally came out after several weeks after I complained that I had put a log in the fireplace and the house quickly filled up with smoke (yes..the flue was open). My friend went on the roof to see where the leak was coming from and noticed roofing debris strewn about with chunks of roofing tile in the gutters. Flashing was missing in several places especially where the leak was at and some roof tiles were even on backwards!! The water from the roof had started to get into the foundation around the fireplace(which is the reason that caused all that smoke). They finally came after about 1 month and numerous phone calls and complaints. 3 people came, the supervisor and 2 coworkers.

My friend went on the roof with them to show them the poor workmanship that had caused the leak. The coworkers were laughing and pointing out all the mistakes until they were sent to sit in the car to be quiet. The supervisor agreed with my friend that it was a lousy job. He even shook his hand and said that it would be taken care of the following week. I did not hear from them. When I called, I explained that I was informed that the work would be corrected and the damaged caused by this inferior job would also be fixed.

I spoke to "Chris" who informed me that that was not what she was told. She said that they put the second roof layer on and they were not responsible for any leaks caused by the underlying roof!!! She stated that whatever work was done on the roof was requested by the previous owners and that "Maybe they just wanted it to look nice." I contacted the previous owners who were furious at this company because they had expected that a quality job had been done. Martin and Sons basically said it was my problem and they had no intentions of fixing it. The owner Todd was never in when I called and I repeatedly asked if I could meet with him or if he would at least call me so we could discuss this. I called several lawyers in town but they said it was either a conflict of interest because they represented Martin and Sons or they were friends with them. I am disgusted that they can get away with this. They were "busy" after the tornadoes we experienced a few months ago in Kenosha because they were repairing roofs....I hope those poor people don't become the next victims.

Ironically, I called again last week and they were out of their office because they had issues with their own roof at work!! They are ALSO members of the Better Business Bureau.... what a joke. Please help me expose this inferior business as they obviously have no pride in the work they do.

My garage wall is beginning to buckle and I fear my chimney will begin to slide and crack with the foundation as the damage progresses. It is a crime that this company can make the consumer feel like a helpless victim. Warning the consumers of this company is the first step in preventing future victims. I can only hope that you choose to share my story and that it might be an incentive for them to "save face" and HONOR THY WARRANTY!!!!!

Martin And Sons Roofing - Truth of the matter

I recently met with Mr. Martin who listened to my complaints about my experience with his company. Apparently he had done the roof for the previous owners who only wanted the roof reshingled. Mr. Martin explained that he complied with the owners request. He was professional and understanding of my situation but wanted to clarify who should take ownership of the problems I had with the leak.

When the leak began and I contacted the previous owner, I asked if they had had any problems in the past. They adamently said "no" but stated that the roof was still under warranty.

Unfortunately, I was unable to get in touch with Mr. Martin at the time and thought that he must be avoiding me because he knows the work done was inferior.

When I finally had it repaired, the worker told me that the previous owners had to have had an ongoing problem with this leak and that there were obvious signs of multiple patchwork jobs from the past. There was extensive damage in the wall around the chimney and garage.

The true RIP-OFFS in the case are the previous owners.....obviously they denied the issues and tried to pass the blame to Martin and Sons.

I appreciate the time Todd Martin took to finally speak with me and explain the history of the work done with the other owners.

I did find other patched jobs done in the house as time went on ....the owners made things look good but the work done was of poor quality.

Mr. Martin was pleasant and professional . I would like to clarify that they were not the cause of the problems I experienced. I trusted the sellers when I bought this house....they are the ones I should go after.

I meet with Kjr that was never a customer of ours. She told me that she now realizes that the rotting wall in the corner of her garage was covered up by the previous owners prior to selling her the home. The person whom repaired the wall told her that it was not the roofers fault for the rotted wall stud, because the water had been coming in through the siding, at the intersection which was not caulked by a siding contractor years ago. I was happy to hear it wasn't the roofing after all. I just wished that Martin & Son's Roofing wasn't the target of Kjrs anger, unfortunately that's the nature of our business, when water cause's a problem the first to blame is the roofer. Martin & Son's Roofing has been an outstanding member of the Better Business Bureau for the past 35 years, and is listed in the top 1% of BBB members. We pride our self on our customer service and reputation.

Martin And Sons Roofing Ripoff- PROPOSAL

I did receive a proposal to fix the roof for $1000.00. Imagine.....the proposal was to remove 400 square feet of roofing (their own inferior workmanship done 3 years ago) and replace it. I had another company give an estimate last week and he asked me if I had an amateur put the roof on. There is actually a hole where the roof meets the chimney because they were too lazy to do it correctly.....NO WONDER I have water leaking through my garage walls! The roofer asked for a digital camera to take a picture saying...."You've gotta see this rig job of a roof."
