I was involved in the Maytag class action lawsuit against Neptune front loading washing machines.
Maytag replaced a ring in my machine that was supposed to remedy the mildew problem I was having. It did not resolve the problem. (this was in Late November 2005)
I have since contacted Maytag and its representatives by e-mail and phone on several occasions (In 2006) to ask that my machine be replaced due to the problem not being resolved.
I was told that my case was closed and all they could do was offer me cleaning tips on how to keep mildew from building up in my machine. such as using lime away and bleach. I was also told to use powder detergent as liquid detergent contributed to my problem.
I don't think I should have to resort to using these methods to keep this problem under control.
I paid $1,000 for this machine and I think it should be replaced!
DO NOT BUY from Maytag!!! The consumer service STINKS!!!
I was treated very rudely and uncaring by the people I talked to.
Their response was like: we are sorry but you are S--T out of luck!
They just need to admit there is a problem and fix it.
AFTER THIS EXPERIENCE: I WILL NEVER BUY FROM MAYTAG OR ITS AFFILIATES AGAIN!!!

I have a Maytag Neptune that has failed twice. The second time I was looking for the part, I came upon the class action lawsuit. I called and asked why I never received the news about it. They come back and say I did, but failed to respond to it. So now I have a crappy overpriced washer that holds mold.
Every chance I get, I tell people to avoid Maytag and Whirlpool.

I too have been left feeling cold with respect to Maytag's dealing with their defective products.
My Neptune washer (while not exhibiting any of the mold or control board issues) had problems after only one year.
The driven pulley on the back fell off (which I repaired) only to have it come off again. Upon further investigation, I discovered the shaft to be "stripped" and after a few e-mail attempts, I received the Factory Specs on the correct bolt size. I then drilled and re-tapped the hole and installed the replacement bolt, torquing it to their specs.
Fast forward another year. Two children in diapers and a noisy bearing in the machine. I called the Lonely Guy and was advised that it could be repaired, but that it would require a complete disassembly of the machine and several hundred dollars in parts and labor.
He also implied it would take a few weeks to procure the parts and I wasn't about to deal with such inconvenience (having read similar horror stories here).
Since the machine was already out of warranty (3 years old)and the rainbow over the diaper pail wasn't diminishing, I decided to keep running the machine while filing under their class-action lawsuit.
In about two months the local Air Force Base was complaining they couldn't hear the sound of their jets over my washing machine and I decided to "roll the dice" and replace the machine in anticipation of Maytag doing the right thing.
I had hoped for a full (or even partial) reimbursement on the NEW NEPTUNE I had purchased as I assumed since my machine's serial #'s were among those listed as "defective".
I was surprised and dismayed when my claim was denied and then insulted by a poorly written letter filled with "doublespeak" regarding the denial of my claim.
I contacted a Rep by phone and felt as if I was talking to a robot as she continued to deny Maytag's responsibility for such a premature failure.
So far, the new machine has performed flawlessly, but if and when it exhibits any sign of failure, I will take it and its companion Neptune dryer to the local landfill and begin a very vigorous campaign to encourage everybody to boycott Maytag and its new owner Whirlpool.
It's a shame when a brand name, once known as an American icon, the very symbol of quality and durability, has deteriorated to such a status.
I feel as if they had even shown the slightest concern, or offered a pro-rated participation in the cost of the new machine, that I would not be writing this.
I wasn't looking for a free ride, just a little bit of fair play and compassion.
Thank you for providing this forum and for the attending education it provides. To the other victims of Maytag out there- I feel your pain.

hello I am the former owner of a maytag home appliance center. I was forced to shut my doors because of the poor preformance of maytag laundry and maytags don't care attitude about products with known and widespread design flaws.
The way that I read the lawsuit was that they had two attemts to fix the problem ( which will never happen) then when that fails you get a voucher to go on a new neptune tl.(can you say thanksfor nothing) as far as I can see they have not carried out the terms of the suit I run up on customers everyday that got no notice from maytag of a suit in the first place and the time has ran out on making a claim the rest are like you where maytag knows but don't care. maytag will lie, stall, and play dumb to knowledge of their problems to get you to get flustrated and give up.If you give up the person on the phone has done their job and saved maytag money DON'T give up even if you have to buy another washer (not maytag hopefully)keep bugging them that is the only way to get any action.
I can't figure how maytag is getting away with not living up to the court ordered aggreement. If a court ordered me to make something right and I thumbed my nose at the court guess where I would be.
one comment on the future of maytag,in the mid 90's they were about twelve maytag home appliance centers in north alabama today there is NONE the last one went out two weeks ago and we all went out mainly because of poorly designed maytag washers front load and top load, and with us having no help to resolve these problems we were as hung out to dry as our customers so we had no choice but to close rather than sell a product that I knew would not last. so for the way maytag has treated the stores and the customers that had made maytag what it was I hope maytag's future is a short one.
