McDonalds in the St. Louis area has started charging Take out Tax, I have not had any other restaurant tack on this tax to my order. I do not know why or when but I know it has been resent. I think this is a huge ripoff to have tha much tax added on to my order. .29 cents for a two dollar order. .92 cents for a $12 order. That's insain when you order dollar menu items. Where did this come from and why was it not advertised.

Doesn't Add Up

Your math simply doesn't add up.
You assume a 14.5% tax on the 2 dollar meal, which is absurd, and then assume a 7.6% tax on the 12 dollar meal which is completely normal.
Unless you were implying that the 12dollar meal was a dine-in meal.

it will show the same tax next to the wrods eat in. It's not a tax for take out, it's a tax on your order and the notation that the order is for take out. Just like all the other reports on the so called take out tax.

You are mistaken..

It is not McDonalds that just decides to charge you tax, it is your Local, and State Government that requires them to.
Now, McDonalds and some other national chains have receipts that could be confusing, as most places just say "Sales Tax". In the past people basically ignored their receipts. But now with people watching every penny they are noticing things and not really understanding what it is. They are a national chain and their registers are used in multiple tax districts. Some of those tax districts require different tax for Take-Out compared to Dine-In. So even though in your area the tax may be the same rate, the receipts are programmed to print "Dine-In Tax" or "Take-Out Tax" and the amount.
So if you have a complaint talk to your government officials. Because even on the outside chance this McDonalds is collecting it when they should not, they are not keeping it.
