On December 26th we had our 2003 Ford Explorer towed to Meineke because check engine light came on followed by smoke and loss of power.

My husband signed the paper at Meineke to have them look at and diagnose the problems. We had brought the car in earlier that year  because it had not passed the smog test and we then had the brakes replaced, front driver side window fixed and what ever was causing us to fail the smog test that bill was a little over $1300.

They called us later that day to tell us the head gasket was blown and that it would be best for us to just have the whole engine replaced. So we asked for an estimate and were later contacted with the estimate of $4326.60. We discussed our options and agreed that we would get it fixed.

We needed to be financed for that amount and first needed to come up with $1300 down. and they would finance us for the rest.

We never signed release for them to take the $1300 from our account. But I did sign Paperwork for them to proceed with work. Three days later we recieved a call from Bert telling us that there were other problems and the price would now be $1500 additional for the other repairs.

We told them we could not see the point of repairing a 10 year old vehicle for $5800 and that we would not be moving forward with the repairs. So they said they would put the engine back in and called us to tell us they would require an additional $400 on top of the already paid $1300.

My husband went to talk to them and they said they would keep the $1300, but they would purchase the vehicle from us for $525.

The reciepts I have show $1130.44, and a non signed reciept that they withdrew $1300 from our bank account.
