I was routinely getting offers from different credit card processing companies, but they all seemed to be about $50/ month. I would rarely have use for it, so that is kind of pricey for me. Merchant Services told me they could do it for $30/ month, .5% processing fee, and the first transaction of each month would go towards the $30. The sales representative told me there would be a $300 set-up fee, and so I declined. When they dropped it $150, I decided to go with it. I quickly received my machine, and received my first bill for $180 - automatically withdrawn from checking account. The next month I processed roughly $2000, and was billed $130. When I called to ask what the problem was, they said that there was a form I had to fill out online that showed me proper processing procedures, and once I did this, it would knock off $30/ month - still doesn't explain the rest of the money, but I let it go.
The next month was $30, so I relaxed a bit. The next month I didn't even use it, and the bill was $90.
I got online, and saw a bunch of complaints about these people, one of which was that when you cancel, they keep making withdrawls from your checking account. I changed checking accounts, and then cancelled. I received bills from them for the next 3 months, which I ignored. In a nutshell, my transactions over 6 months were about $4,500, and it cost me roughly $700. The other day I received a call from a sales representative at Merchant Services offering me $12/ month and .5% processing. When I was explaining my previous experience, he hung up the phone before I could even finish talking.
