Merchants' Credit Guide MCGC trying to collect on debt from company I never had an account with, while misspelling my first name! ripoff Chicago Illinois

I received a letter in the mail from Merchants Credit Guide Co on 7/10 stating that I owed $566.21 to their client, Midland Credit Management, and that the original creditor of was a phone company that I have never had an account with.

I have never had an account with these people!! Secondly, they misspelled my name along with other words in the letter. How professional! How can they prove that I owe anything when they don't even have my name right?

I've read quite a few of the other reports and think my next steps are to send a certified letter to Merchants' Credit Guide Company along with a letter to the Attorney General in Illinois and the Attorney General in Michigan where I live. Is there anyone else I should be sending this to?

I have went to the ftc.gov website and have printed the FDCPA information. I am sending them a cease and desist letter via certified mail and in this letter I am going to unload on them in regards to the fact that I have never did business with the company that they are trying to collect on and that before they try to target another victim that they should learn to use spell check and research their information more so that they spell names correctly. What garbage!!

Thanks to everyone on this website for leading me in the right direction. All I know is that I had a sick stomach this morning and didn't know what to do before I read all of the entries on this junk company.
