I was in a car accident where the other person was at fault running a red light while making a left turn and according to MERCURY INSURANCE its my fault.

I can't believe they made me get a lawyer.

I can't believe they say I'm at fault when the evidence is so clear that there insure driver was at fault.

He got a citation I didn't.

These are the worst people to deal with stay away from this insurance company they like to screw good innocent people.

They are going to be sorry when we get to court and they are stuck paying all my fees and court fees on a case they didn't stand a chance on winning.

Mercury abuse and bad business practices

Mercury uses the same unethical business practices and abuse with their insureds as they do with the consumers who have claims against them. In California even when you have insurance you are responsible for hiring an attorney to deal with claims. Mercury will try to stretch out any claim so the statute of limitations expires and they don't have to pay anything. So do hire a lawyer to preserve your rights. I have never heard of Mercury making a fair settlement or providing good customer service to anyone. Mercury would rather spend lots of their money hiring attorney's and forcing claimants to spend as much money as possible to try and get reimbursed for their expenses. They refuse to make fair settlements - by that I mean paying the expenses incurred by the harmed party. They would rather argue that your expenses are too much, your injury isn't real, the doctor wasn't needed, you were somehow at fault, etc. Even when they accept complete liability (for the accident or harm) they still won't make a reasonable settlement to cover expenses. Why? Why would any company spend more money than it needs to in order to harass consumers? One has to ask why a large company continues to abuse consumers and use a pattern of bad business practices over and over. I would say it's because they get away with it. They wear people down, who don't want to go through litigation, or even hire an attorney. In fact just ask any attorney who doesn't represent Mercury and they will tell you Mercury is the worst insurance company in the Nation - always refuses to be reasonable, and consistently uses abusive bad business practices.

Everyone who has a negative experience with Mercury should write to this site, complain to your state Dept of Insurance, complain to AARP and other consumer groups and write to Mercury's Board of Directors and Executive Officers. Write letters to the editor of your paper.  Let's wear them down and take back our consumer power. And if you have Mercury Insurance get another company - any other company before they have an opportunity to abuse you.

So you are upset they protected thier client

You did not mention if you had Insurance or not.  But the fact that you were going to get your own lawyer would make it seem like you were not insured yourself.  It is the job of the insurance company to protect thier client. 
It sounds like you just needed a better comnpany protecting you.  If I were the other driver I would be so happy that I had Mercury defending me no matter what.  This site is for scams not for you to vent that an Insurance company was defending thier client.  All Insurance companies will defend thier clients that is natural.  That is what you pay them for.  They deal with litigation and making sure no matter what happens the accident is dealt with.
YOu either need Insurance where if you were driving uninsured no wonder they wanted to take you to court.  And if you were Insured why were you talking to Mercury that is what you pay your Insurance for.
