Midas Midas Auto Service Orangeville Safety Inspection Rip-off Orangeville, Ontario

My husband and I recently purchased a 2004 Chev Venture and decided to take it to Midas for a safety inspection prior to registering the vehicle in my name.  The body of the vehicle is in mint condition and it runs so smoothly you can barely hear when the vehicle is running. 

We purchased it from family and had a full history of previous owners and maintenance reports.  We knew we had made a great purchase!

I arrived for our safety with my 3 children in tow and my hubby agreed to meet me when he was done work.  The vehicle was put up on the hoist and I went to await the results at the next door Tim Hortons.

1hr later the mechanic had a full list of things the vehicle would need to provide a safety.  They included:

rear wiper blade

2 wheel studs and nuts

sway bar (claimed a crack was starting in it)

front brakes

muffler (claimed there were holes)

control arm bushings

My husband and I were quite surprised by this and despite paying $97.12 we took it to another local mechanic for a 2nd opinion.

The 2nd mechanic found:

The rear wiper was in good working order

2 wheel studs/nuts DID need to be replaced (which he did for me on the spot)

sway bar was NOT cracked

front brakes still had approx 10thou kms left to them (and more than surpassed the min standard for safety)

the muffler ONLY had DRAIN holes in it

control arm bushings were fine

The safety was written!  BUT NOT BY THE MIDAS RIP-OFF ARTISTS who tried to con a woman who entered thier shop with children!  Did they think I was stupid??!??!
