A man came to my door claiming to be a student/aspiring politician trying to earn points and win some sort of contest and said to vote for him to buy books or magazines that would be "donated." He wasn't upfront about any of the prices until I picked a magazine or book, and he was extremely pushy and wouldn't accept "no" for an answer. Regardless, I ended up buying a children's book for my son (very overpriced at $40.00) and the total bill came to over $50.00 because of shipping prices. I wrote "donation" on the check thinking that I was donating to some sort of good cause that helped aspiring students or to at least help them win the contest they were talking about.

It's been about 3 months and still nothing in has come in the mail. I tried calling the number on the receipt for it to just ring and ring and go to a cell phone voicemail. The name written as the salesperson on the receipt was "Michael Hunt" (a fake name, for sure.)

There is no contest, there is no "good cause." There are just overpriced books and magazine subscriptions that never come to you. This is a lying company that should be shut down and prosecuted.

I called my bank and they couldn't do anything because I wrote them a check (they wouldn't accept debit/credit cards and he was really pushing for cash.) The bank said all I could do is open up a claims report at the court house.

If anyone comes to your door saying they need you to buy something for a contest DO NOT BUY FROM THEM. In fact, they probably do not have the proper license to be selling anything and you should call the police and have them arrested.
