Purchased a new phone from a reputable company last year, Sams Club Online. I initially declined additional device protection as I normally carry it through my Carrier provider. I went to local store to have my old phone information transferred over we had to contact Sams Club Mobile for some additional information. While on the phone with Sams Club Mobile they asked again if I wanted the additional coverage. I asked if it covered all loss or damage and if I could take it into a store and get that day replacement if the phone was lost or damaged. I was told yes. Price was the same as what Verizon was charging for that service coverage so I agreed.
Went on vacation this past weekend and my phone accidentally made it into the hotel swim pool I was staying in. I thought no big problem as I had the insurance, I would get it replaced first thing in the morning. I went to the verizon store
in the city I was staying at, and they said since this was a third party insurance program I had to work the details out through them. I called Sams club and after arguing with them for over an hour, including being insulted by a customer service manager, I was informed that since I did not have my order number there was nothing they could do to help me.
In frustration I went to the Sams Club I was staying at and after being insulted at multiple levels the stores general manager allowed me to access internet to find my order information and insurance receipt. Once I located this information the manager became very apologetic and suddenly tried to help me. He filled out the insurance paperwork and submitted it for me. However, was told since it was not "their" insurance he couldn't get me a new phone. I had to purchase a temporary phone and phone line in order to get the information backed up from my phone .
I returned home and this morning I received an email from the company saying "wireless devices that incur either liquid damage or corrosion cannot be repaired or successfully reconditioned, they cease to be covered under our MDPA
Membership." I was never notified of this "change" and it is not the insurance program I purchased.
Now I have to buy a new phone to replace the one that I have been paying insurance on.
What a rip off
