I received another (of many) illegal cold calls on Dec 9, 2014, from a representative of Monitronics saying I have been selected to receive a completely free $1,500 security system if I agree to help promote them by having a small sign with the company's name on my property. This company's "completely free security system" claim turned out later in the sales call to be pure deception since to received the system I was told I'd have to sign a multi-year contract agreeing to pay $49.95 per month. The Monitronics representative said that Nationwide Security Solutions, Vancouver, WA, would install the system and Monitronics would monitor it.
I'm on the National Do Not Call Register and had pointed that out in a previous cold call from Monitronics and had asked them several times to stop calling me. It's not surprising that a company that makes illegal calls to people on the Do Not Call Register would use deceptive sales practices on those calls. After again asking them to stop calling me and hanging up, I researched the phone number that showed on my caller ID and found it was an invalid number, obviously a spoof by Monitronics, same as the previous calls from them. Monitronics (or their agent who made the calls on their behalf) was obviously trying to avoid being prosecuted or sued and assessed penalties for their illegal sales calls by hiding their real telephone number. Their elaborate effort to hide their real number shows that they know their calls are illegal. I intended to follow up with a complaint to the FCC. I hope somebody files a class action law suit on behalf of people on the Do Not Call Register to whom Monitronics makes, or has made on their behalf, these illegal calls.

Monitronics Doesn't Care - Posts Canned Responses to Ripoff Reports

Monitronics posted the same canned response it does for most complaints and said they'd like to investigate further to resolve the matter and asked me to email my account information. I do not have an account with Monitronics nor did I say I did. My report is about their deceptive sales practices and with their practice of making illegal and unwanted sales calls to me and others on the National Do Not Call Register.
I would never do business with Monitronics because of it. Before they called me I had never heard of them but since then, I've read all the complaints here and hundreds on other consumer websites and I am surprised anyone does business with them. Data on one consumer website with hundreds of ratings on Monitronics shows 66% of customers rate them 1 on a 5 point rating system with 5 being best. What are customers complaining about? Equipment problems, lousy customer service, and billing rip offs and screw ups lead the list.
Monitronics, let me make this perfectly clear; DO NOT CALL ME AGAIN.
If you do, I'll find a law firm to file a class action suit.
