I made a purchase of a bedroom set at this particular location in late March. The sales man was absolutely perfect when we made our purchase. We put $2500 down on a $4000 bedroom set, and the set was to be deliverd in 2 weeks.
The delivery came on time as promised, but the delivery guys were not so perfect. They came into the house and immediately stated that they didn't think the set would make it up the stairs and they didn't want to try. I insisted they at least try. Now, this piece was extremely heavy, but a very beautiful set.
They tried to get it up to the landing but didn't have the man power to even get it up the stairs. So I got a neighbor to come help. After a lot of pushing, they finally got it up to the landing. Now, what I forgot to mention was that this company absolutely refuses to take the product out of the box unless you sign a waiver stating that you are responsible for any damages caused by the product or done to the product. So, I absolutely refused to take it out of the box!
Well, after trying to turn the box to try and get it up the rest of the stairs, the box created a very large hole in the wall of my landing. This was the point where the delivery guys gave up, and packed up the box to leave. I knew that they weren't getting it up the stairs, so I wasn't upset about it not making it up, just bummed that I couldn't get the particular bed set that I wanted.
Well, I immediatley called Mor's wharehouse to file a damage report after the delivery guys left. They told me that they had to give my information to their contractor, and he would call me to set up an appointment to repair the damage.
Next, I went back to Mor's showcase room in hope of finding a smaller set that might fit up my stairs, and unfortunately, found nothing. So, I immediately went to the manager to inform him that I was not going to make a different purchase for another bedroom set, and that I wanted to get my $2500 back.
Needless to say, the manager told me that they take 15 business days to refund my money. 15 BUSINESS DAYS?????? That's insane!! I couldn't believe that I went in there and made my purchase and handed them a check for $2500 and they of course cashed it immediately, and now they can't give me my money for 3 weeks. I of course couldn't argue with him, because the money wasn't being refunded from their office, so I let it go, and decided to wait for it in the mail.
It has now been 4 weeks since the date that I cancelled my order with Mor and put in the damage report, and I haven't gotten my money back or my wall repaired Amazing, huh?
I finally called the corporate office, and they told me that they were going to issue a check the day of my call. I was furious!! I couldn't believe that it had taken then this long to hold my money, and it was as simple as making a phone call to get them to issue me a check back for my $2500.
So, I also complained about my large hole in the wall, and she told me that she would call the contractor herself and have him call me immediately. This was yesterday 04/03/2005. And what's really funny, is that I just got the call today 04/04/2005 from the contractor wanting to come and repair the hole this weekend. There's a lot you can do when you threaten to report them to the Better Business Bureau.
I can honestly say that I had every intention to purchose more furniture from their store, but for some STRANGE reason, I have no interest to ever go back into that store again. Hmmmm, I wonder why???

Wasting my time

To start off, you're right Jeff, I did say that Mor would not be liable for damages done if the product was taken out of the box. Why would I want to take a chance and have it taken out of the box? Also, Scott, for someone who has no time to waste of stupid matters like mine............ why is it that you keep replying and why is it that since your time is so d**n valueable that you keep bothering with it? And I think that it's absolutely hilarious that you say that your time is too valueable for this, yet you said that you go onto this website all the time. You're time must not be too precious!! You must be some retired old man with nothing better to do with his time than to make people mad. Find something better to do with your time!!!!!!!!!!

You are arguing yourself

In your first post you stated that since the store will not be liable for damage to the furnature if it is unboxed. You told the delivery men that you did not want it unboxed and now you are saying that they refused to unbox it.
They probably knew they would be able to get it up the stairs if it was unboxed. It would have made it lighter ( not picking up the cardboard and wooden structure and drawers) and smaller ( the wood structure on the bottom creates another inch on the bottom and top on all 4 sides). Steve is right when he said that you are lucky to get your money back. In fact i was suprisd when they said they would send you a check.
They were just waiting for you to call back just to make sure that the right address was on fine and did not want to send a $2500 check to some one that wasn't you.

I don't know how many times I have to tell you that I do not, or have never worked for Mor. You either need to get that through your thick skull, or practice some reading comprehension.
You said yourself that they would have taken the furniture out of the box had you instructed them to and signed for that. I have a feeling as to why they have such a policy, though. Companieslike this (Mor, Ashley, The Room Store, etc) do this sort of thing so that if there is anythign wrong with it, it makes it more difficult to refuse the product and agree to have them repair it, rather than replace it.
Personally, I have absoultely no interest in your story. I just get a kick out of how much you are getting your panties in a bunch by what I have to say. If you were to take the time to look in other furniture complaint posts, you would see I post here quite frequently. I know a great deal about the retail furniture business. So, relly, your questions aren't that good, so quit trying to pat yourself on the back.
Unlike you, and many others on this site complaining about retailers like Mor, Ashely, The Room Store, etc., I know the quality of the products they sell, and I know that that quality isn't the best. I can understand if you can't afford to purchase quality furniture, but more people out there need to learn how to do their homework, ask questions, research the product, and most importantly KNOW WHAT THEY ARE BUYING.

See, it's hard for you to dispute this with me seeing as how you weren't there. To start off, they wouldn't take the product out of the package. It was the whole reason as to why it wouldn't make it up the stairs, so I couldn't possibly have been able to take the drawers out of it. And to continue with this little dispute, I find it hard to believe that you are just a simple consumer, because, as you said, if your time is so valueable, then what are you doing arguing it with me??? And why are you so interested in my story?? Only an employee or someone invloved with Mor would even bother with it! What caused you to look up Mor furniture to begin with? Good Questions, huh?

Mor Furniture - not good neighbors
AUTHOR: Jo - (U.S.A.)

Mor were delivering furniture to my neighbor, They spent an hour assembling the stuff on the sidewalk from cardboard packages. All this while their truck was running and my home filled up with diesel fumes. I asked the driver to cut the engine and he just refused. I called the store to complain and spoke to a person (who could have been Scott) that told me to find something better to do. Nice manners huh! I reported Mor furniture to the State and County Air Quality Depts.and they got written up.

Your reading comprehension is poor.

In my very first post, I stated that I was not taking the side of Mor. Don't you think that if I was an employee of their's, I would take their side?
Never have I said that I do not get upset with things in day to day life. But, maybe I don't get as upset as you, due to the fact that I obviously have more insight as to finding out whether or not a piece of furniture is going to fit where I want it to go, or even get to the place where I want it to go.
I have a feeling that the dresser was too heavy to get to it's destination in your house for 2 reasons.
1) It is a particle board piece of crap.
2) Mor's employees, or yourself for that matter, didn't think of something as simple as removing the drawers before trying to take it up the stairs. It's amazing how much of a difference can be made in the weight of a piece of furniture when the drawers are removed.
You're right, I would be angry if I purchased something and it did not work out as planned. You have to realize one thing though. That doesn't happen with me. I do my homework on what I buy. I take measurements. I do everything that a consumer is supposed to do BEFORE the purchase, to make sure it is exactly what I want and that I will be happy with it.
Your comment: "I could definetly say that I would never put money down on a product."
If this is your attitude, be prepared to NEVER be able to buy a piece of furniture again. No store out there will order a single piece of furniture for a customer without taking a deposit.
Unlike your's, my time is too valuable to continue getting into a pissing match with you. Again, think whatever you want, but deep down, you need to know that you were lucky to get a refund instead of a store credit.

Are you an employee - Pain In the a*s - I'm not understood
AUTHOR: Stephanie - (U.S.A.)

Do you work for Mor Furniture Scott? Is that why you are defending them?
Pain In the a*s
To say that they thought that I was part of the small population that they think is a pain in the a*s is completely rude!! Who do you think you are? Do you never get upset with day to day life? They were wrong and you argue that I am lucky. You can't tell me that if you go somewhere, in fact, anywhere, and make a purchase, and it doesn't turn out the way it was planned, that you wouldn't get upset? You'd be lying to say that you wouldn't be angry! I just wanted to warm people of my experience, and make people aware of what will happen there. I don't have Mor Furniture for my bad experience, I could definetly say that I would never put money down on a product. You need to think about what you're saying before you give a rebuttal!!!
I'm not understood
I was well aware of the store policy when I made my purchase. You are right, I should have measured to make sure that it would fit. None the less, it didn't fit, and I was aware that they owed me my money back!! I went all through their store to find another bed set, and not one of them would fit. The whole problem was getting the dresser up the stairs, and the weight of the dresser. Wether it would have fit up there or not, they didn't have the man power to get it up there. Saying that I was "LUCKY" to have gotten my money back is wrong!! When I called the store manager and he is appauled that my refund was not given, and apologetic for not being able to help me find another set, means that they were wrong! They were wrong in taking so d**n long in getting me my money back. I was without a bed because of this, and you say that I am "LUCKY"? You're crazy!!

Store policy or not, it is the responsibility of the consumer to make sure that what they are buying will fit where they want it to go. Think what you want, but you are lucky to have gotten a refund and not a store credit. I'm sure with their selection, size and ordering capacity, if they wanted to find something that would work for you, they would have. It's a strong possibility that they thought that you were part of the small population that is considered a pain in the a*s, and it wasn't worth their time to continue doing business with you.

It was store policy!!!
AUTHOR: Stephanie - (U.S.A.)
SUBMITTED: Monday, June 06, 2005
It wasn't that I was lucky to have gotten my money back. It was their duty to give it back, it was store policy. My issue is how long it took to get my money back. I called their corporate center several times, and they said that they would have it issued, and didn't do it for the longest time. They held my money until the very last possible day. That was completely wrong. In fact, I don't know that I would have the check right now, if I hadn't called them and threaten them with the better business bureau. The first time I threatened to do that, I had the check in hand in 3 days. Amazing, huh??

You are very lucky to have gotten your money back at all, instead of receiving a store credit. I do not want to take the side of Mor here, but you have to realize that it is the responsibility of the consumer to make sure what they want will fit where they want it to go, and not the responsibility of the retailer.
