August bill amount received from Southwest Water for the amount of $165.92. Due date August 18, 2009. Paid in full on August 3, 2009 (electronically). 


September bill received stating a late fee of $0.42 for a charge that has been added (to the september bill) in the amount of $4.20. That is an interest rate of 120% per year or 10% per month (not even check cashing places charge this). So they never sent a bill out, just added the amount to the september bill and also added in a late fee. 

After much discussion, they said they would reverse the "late fee charge".

My concern, how are they getting away with charging people, their mistake, and if YOU CATCH THE EXTRA CHARGE, they reverse it.  There are approx 3500 homes, if everyone got charged this just once per year, it comes out to $1,470 (if no one caught it)

Whomever thinks that $0.42 is not much, I agree, but when you multiply it out, it is a lot.  If the  company I worked for did this, they would have a lawsuit against them. Because this is a community service, no one has done anything about it yet.  

I am making this post to make sure that everyone checks their bills, especially for late charges that have been billed for a bill that you have never received.
