The transmission in my 2005 VW Beetle bagan to stick in third gear even though its an automatic. After taking it to several body shops for estimates and repeatedly being informed I needed a new transmission I ended up at Mr Transmission for an estimate. This is where my nightmare begins.

After towing the vehicle for an estimate I receive a phone call from Alan Polson (owner) who informs me they have looked at my vehicle and can easily fix it for $998.To me ( a young girl who knows nothing about cars and has received several estimates for much higher) this sounds great. I ask Alan several times if he is sure he can fix my vehicle for $998. And several times he assures me im in good hands. I felt like I was in good hands - I was sadly mistaken.

Five days later John from MrTransmission called me to tell me my estimate had suddenly jumped to $5800. How could an estimate for $998 jump over $5000 in 5 days. How could the "professionals" not realize the extent of my repairs in the first place? Isnt this their job? Every other auto shop realized immediately I needed a new transmission so why did this guy convince me otherwise.

I immediately made it clear to John I did not want any work done to my vehicle and wanted it back in the condition they had received it. John stated Alan would need to call me. The next day Alan finally called me to confirm my car needed alot more work and he understood I didnt want to put so much money into the car especially because it only has 60940 miles on it and im still making payments for the vehicle. Yet he still tried to push me into agreeing to allow him to go ahead with the higher estimate.

Once I finally got it through to him I wanted my car returned to me in the condition he received it, he sounded angry and stated they had already taken my transmission out and had thrown away the gaskets and in order to get my car back I would have to come out of pocket an additional $400 for replacement gaskets and suddenly the free towing clearly advertised on google would cost me $180 also. I was shocked and upset. Who is this guy and what kind of business does he run. I immediately made it clear this is not what we agreed upon and he simply barked at me that because of my reaction he wanted cash only as payment and would not put my transmission unrepaired in my vehicle.

I was so upset at this moment. What an a-hole. I contacted an attorney the following day. He called Alan and once again made it clear he was unautherized to do any work on my vehicle and we wanted it returned to me immediately in the condition he had received it. Shortly there after I received a call from the attorney and was adviced to go there with Dekalb police because this guy was unreasonable.

Because I was at work I contacted the police and made arrangements to have a friend and her dad go to pick up my car with a police escort. Once they arrived at Mr Transmission Alan told them my car couldnot be moved with the transmission out and I would have to come back the next day and I would still be out over $1000 for a car in worse shape than they had received it.

In the mean time I have contacted the Better Buisness Bereau, Governors Office of Consumer Affairs, and several media outlets. I understand GA's ridiculous laws state I have to pay him for him to release my car then sue him for the money back. What kind of law is this? Con artist, scammers, and theifs should not have the right to victumize consumers.

Currently Alan still has my vehicle and I need advice. How is this guy in business? Why is their no laws to protect the consumer? And why should I be out of money because this man and his business were dishonest and did nothing to my car but put it in a worse condition? I plan to sue for my money back and wish anyone else who hes scammed would please contact the same outlets I have. If you dont complain he will be allowed to continue this scamm throughout Atlanta. Call the Better Buisness Bereau, Consumer Affairs, and any media outlet possible. Lets put a stop to this.

Almost the same thing

AUTHOR: Orion - (United States of America)

POSTED: Wednesday, January 27, 2010

I went to this same location in Marietta and with a 2007 Altima that wasn't shifting into 4th gear. When I drop the car off and tell him what it is doing his exact words were: "It sounds like the shift solenoid and the fluid, I can take a look and have an answer by noon". Noon rolls around and nothing. I call and was told that it will be 3pm now. I wait till 3 and get told tomorrow.

So finally tomorrow rolls around and he finally calls me back at almost 4pm to tell me that I need a complete rebuild, that my car is, in his exact words, "hemorraging oil and transmission fluid" then he tells me it can be fixed for $2000. I told him to leave my car alone and that I wanted a second opinion because if it was leaking as much as he said I should have need to add fluid every day. He tells me it my decision.

I pick up my car and look at the diagnostic receipt that stated:

Customer refused diagnostic services and opinion of professional

I go to leave with it and it actually drove worse. The full tank of gas that it had was now on E and the cleared millage said 250. I took it to a local mechanic who was able to fix the entire problem, which was actually a stuck valve, for 30 bucks.

If this guy is such an expert, wouldn't he have caught that? What I think happened was that they used my car for a joy ride and then wanted to charge me for more than what was actually wrong.

This guy brags about his BBB rating, which he obvioulsy paid for.
