In October of 2002, my spouse and I signed up for a sales pitch on a travel club (but that's ANOTHER rip-off story) and rec'd an MVI Vacation for 3 days, 2 nights to San Diego. We chose an "incorrect" date at first (near Easter) with our money at first.
Then we sent in corrected dates of June 24-26 (hoping Father's Day wasn't considered a black-out holiday) and waited for our documents to come. Come June, we called to see where they were and the company said they send a letter at the end of March saying our dates were full and not available. (Those must be the only full mid-week flights in the U.S.!!!)
There were some alternate dates on the letter that we never got, but she said those had already become unavailable. I told her that there is nothing in the literature that says "we send out letter of approval or denial early, so if you haven't rec'd your confirmation within 2 months of departure, call our long-distance number to find out what happened to your letter." She said the next days available were in the last 2 weeks of November and would send another letter with those dates.
Three weeks later, I am still waiting for this letter. We DID confirm that my address was correct. I've heard of others losing their "refundable deposits" and just giving up on the headache of contact and convincing, but $200 is $200.

*UPDATE ..Mini Vacations contacts Rip-off Report to give a full Refund or replacement certificates to any unsatisfied customer.. even when it's not their responsibility
NOTE: Rip-off Report launched a complete investigation on this particular situation and found that Mini Vacations had no control over promises another company makes when marketing their vacation coupons. Even though Mini Vacations is not responsible for another company's actions, they have been giving FULL refunds to anyone who has contacted them, and has even given more than they should have in the name of good customer service
