*Consumer Comment: RE: Dolphingodess17
Ever since we have opened our account at National City we have had more prooblems with overdrafts with no conderations or explanations to the cause. We have another account in another bank and don't have the same issue that we have with this one. We call customer support they say call the branch, ask the branch they say call customer service. I can't get anywhere with this bank. We are closing out our accounts soon.

I had this same thing happen to me. In fact, I tried to close my account & thought it WAS closed after having a zero balance, but there was one outstanding check that was never run through my bank from my daughter's school lunch account. I called the school & told them that I would be in to pay for this $10 check since my account was now closed. The very next day they ran the check through my so called "CLOSED ACCOUNT" & National City reopened my account & charged me $36. I was not aware of this because they were sending notices to my old P.O. Box number which had been expired for 3 months. They had my new address.
After calling & cancelling a monthly auto debit account with one of my creditors, they tried processing this debit through my "CLOSED ACCOUNT" after I told them the account had been closed. National City also processed this transaction which I just recently found out about since any notices were not coming to my current address. The auto debit transaction was returned to the creditor "INSUFFICIENT FUNDS" instead of "ACCOUNT CLOSED." The creditor has just informed me that as long as the transaction does not come back "ACCOUNT CLOSED" the auto debits will not stop. I found out that this has happened 2 times now & will again on 2/02/08.
National City reopened my closed account without my knowledge after I closed it & they even took my debit card at the bank the day it was closed since my card was no longer valid. They do this so that they make a fortune off of overdrafts. All of their locations obviously do this same thing to their customers. Close your account as soon as possible & make absolutely sure that you have nothing outstanding, no matter what the circumstances because they WILL reopen your account & slap overinflated charges to it. Because I thought my account was closed for good back in December & just now found out about these unbeleivable charges, National City has also charged me $8 a day since December. They state that I owe them nearly $500 in overdraft fees for a "CLOSED ACCOUNT." Beware!!!
