I left for vacation on October 27, 2009.  I wrote out my rent check for 825 dollars.  I put it in an envelope and put it on the seat of my truck before I left.  So, I get back from vacation on November 3rd.  (Rent due by the 5th).  I get back from vacation and have 1050 in my checking.   So, I get back to the airport and mail my rent on the way home.  So, last night, 11/09, I check my account seeing if my landlord had taken out his rent.  Still no.  (MIND YOU, I HAVE TWO CHECKING ACCOUNTS), both with different banks.  One with National City, and the other with my credit union.  So, I go into my National Ciity account to see if my direct deposit had gone through, and I am shocked to see my account in the negative by -$792.00.  I want to vomit realizing what I had done.  I had written my rent out of the wrong checking account.  TOTALLY my fault.  HERE'S where it gets REALLY REALLY UNETHICAL!

On Saturday 11/07 my National City balance is 179.00.  So, I withdraw 10.00 from a cash machine, go to Wal-Mart, by my mom a birthday present, go to McDonald's twice over the weekend, etc..All totaling 133.00.  So, I of course have enough to cover and check my balance daily on the online banking, of which the items come out immediately when I use my debit card.

So, Monday morning, my rent goes through. Of course it bounced, of which I COMPLETELY expect that it would, as I did not have the funds to cover it, because I didn't realize I wrote it out of this account, BUT I SWEAR TO CHRIST, it was an honest mistake but I am more than happy to cover that NSF fee as it was MY MISTAKE.  National City in an effort to collect NSF fees on 8 ITEMS as far back as last Thursday, processes the RENT CHECK FIRST (even though when I checked my online statement daily and saw the debits from my card from as far back as last Thursday 11/05 immediately online), they wait until Monday to process them.  IT'S DIRTY, DIRTY, DIRTY, DIRTY!!!!!  There was AMPLE MONEY to cover EVERY SINGLE DEBIT TRANSACTION, as evidenced by me checking my daily balance, ONLINE WITH ONLINE BANKING.  The ETHICAL thing to do would have been to pay the DEBITS with the money AVAILABLE, THAT WAS CLEARLY AVAILABLE as they were made, as IT SHOWED online!!!  but NO, they process the largest item, so they can collect NSF fees.  It's just not right.  It's just not fair.  I am going to the bank this morning as soon as it opens, and I will update you on what they say.

I am HOPING, they stop the NSF on the debits for which the money was CLEARLY available and only charge me the NSF for the LARGE rent check which I completely agree was made on my ERROR.
