erratic availability, lack of clarity around free web mail and cost of membership, soft fraud, sudden and unnananced changes in service and change in internet address of portal for email login, complete shutdown of service without prior warning to clients of digiverse.net webmail, insufficient followup (insufficient or lack of explanations, refunds, apologies etc.)

On November 25th, 2004 I decided to end my MSN web mail account following a name change with marriage. After some research I found a web site that gave digiverse.net webmail a good rating, and decided to go with it. At the time of signup, I was requested to submit a fee. This was a surprise, considering the review I had just read spoke of free webmail, but I went ahead and paid it by credit card, roughly $20.00. When I wrote to the site administrator to clarify why the fee? I was told that the fee paid for full membership privileges for one year from date of signup, November 25th, 2004. The webmaster, self-identified as Haasim Mahanaim, was evidently also the administrator of MOONROCKET, an "ezine", and he stated that he lives in Brampton, ON, Canada. Evidently he was somehow able to combine his "blog" with the digiverse webmail site portal atdigiverse.net. The web site then also had a little icon that stated: "powered by everyone.net". I later directed complaints to their webmaster, who admitted access privileges to my account and the site. At that time I did not know about any of the other companies I have since discovered only through research: Netfirms, SME Source and Webmasteredge or Billing Orchard, as well as everyone.net and possibly even digiverse.co.uk. They all have connections to www.digiverse.net, most of them quite directly. Now, these are the problems... There was a day or two in the winter, when for an hour or two I had some difficulties with access, but the problem didn't last, and I was happy to accomodate a brief bout of technical problems for otherwise decent webmail privileges. But on June 15th I noticed that the web site digiverse.net was no longer available at its usual place.

Instead there was a totally different website, which you will see if you go to the URL www.digiverse.net. I have never seen so many uses of a URL, and I have to question the legitimacy of same... Was I duped all along by someone pretending to offer digiverse webmail when the real digiverse webmail site was in fact elsewhere, and how would this happen? I went on the hunt for moonrocket.ca and found it. There was a message there that the email administrator had thought it better to separate his "ezine" from digiverse webmail, but he neglected to include an access link for digiverse on his moonrocket web site. I complained to Mr. Haasim Mahaneim by writing to the contact link on the Moonrocket's front page. He did not respond to me directly, but the link was restored within 12-24 hours. This time only digiverse.net/index.html would open up the sign-in portal for my account. No longer would digiverse.net work for me. This annoying discovery took some time to make.

Unfortunately, I also discovered that I could not receive any incoming mail from that time forward. My friends were frustrated, and I was too. Also, once I had logged on through the "digiverse" mail link I was taken to http://dvonline.mail.everyone.net, not www.digiverse.net, where I had previously found and worked on my web mail. The only currently existing site that resembles the original in it's font and graphics is digiverse.netfirms.com.

Anyway, I was very concerned and felt that this webmail site was becoming altogether untrustworthy, so I began to disconnect from the web site while also writing to everyone.net (California) to complain. The support person who wrote back told me that the digiverse web site was essentially out of their hands, and only in the hands of this fellow named Haasim Mahanaim (his problem, not theirs). This individual from Everyone.net, whose name I do not recall, told me also that I was welcome to sign up with them for webmail privileges. A final note explained that whereas most people can no longer send me e-mail to my bdowd@digiverse.net account, he could because he could directly access the account. He gave no details as to what technical problem prevented others from also accessing the account. Then on June 22nd, when I attempted to sign up to my account again, to continue the process of forwarding mail received at that account to my newer rogers.com account and informing my
contacts there that they should send future email elsewhere, I discovered a new message when I clicked onto the digiverse link at moonrocket.ca -- "Sorry, the requested email service has not been set up or has been suspended. PUBLIC "-//IETF//DTD HTML 2.0//EN"> Not Found The requested URL /email/scripts/loginuser.pl was not found on this server Apache/1.3.31 Server at dvonline.mail.everyone.net Port 80" I wrote to
Mr. Mahanaim at moonrocket.ca to complain about lack of access or lack of ability to receive mail. I also stated that if full service was not soon returned a partial refund was due. Complaints to him were made probably about 5 times in total. My complaints, both private and posted, were never posted, nor did they ever receive a direct response by e-mail to my alternate e-mail address. I will add just one other detail. Digiverse.net now opens up to a totally different web page than it ever did before. I also wrote to their webmail sysadmin person over a week ago and gave details of my problem, and requested clarification and/or help. But there has been no response from the new digiverse.net.

Those people who signed up for a year of service at www.digiverse.net are people who have been defrauded of funds and have lost e-mail without any warning. This is more than annoying. There is also the cloudy issue of the real digiverse.net identity, which seems to be owned by a number of companies. The difficulty is that digiverse.net is still recommended by several sites on the internet, but it has turned out to be a hoax.
