Our refrigerator broke down 4-11-2009. We called New Milford Refrigeration to come to repair it. It was damaged beyond repair (electrical unit near compressor melted). We paid the $75.00 "repair" bill and the repairman and owner of the company, Frank Gagliano encouraged us to come over to his shop to buy one of his units.

Upon searching through his inventory we found a Crosley side by side model that on the front had a sticker that read "2008 Model, Reduced!". When I attempted to negotiate the price down a bit Frank responded that the refrigerator was "only a year old" and the price was as low as he could go. My wife was present with me and witnessed both the sticker on the front and the claim by Frank about the age of the appliance. We were in a difficult spot as our broken refrigerator at home was full of food and quickly warming, so we purchased the unit paying full price ($1,100).

In June 2009 we received a recall notice from Maytag (Crosley) stating that there was an electrical part that had to be replaced (fire hazard) for model years 2001-2004. When I called Maytag (thinking they must have made a mistake because my model was a 2008) they informed me that my model, based on the serial number had been manufactured in 2002 and was included in the recall !!! The refrigerator also started leaking water and had to be serviced again in July 2009.

After finding out about the year of manufacture I subsequently went down to the store and spoke with Frank's son (Frank was out) and explained the situation fully. Although I was calm and was not (at this point) insinuating any intentional misrepresentation on their part, he became very nervous and started stammering about how Maytag had bought out Crosley and all the confusion etc. etc. etc. and said "Frank would call me back right away!"......The call never came.

I called Frank back on 8/8/2009 to try to discuss my misgiving about paying such a premium price for an appliance that was actually 7 years old. To say that Frank was rude to me would be an understatement. He hurriedly told me that their receipts state that they are not responsible for the age of anything they sell (It actually does say that in the fine print). As strange as I found that disclaimer on the receipt, as though they have this situation happen often and had to cover themselves, it was there and I did sign it. What was so disturbing was Frank's blatant lie that he never had in any way represented to me that the refrigerator was only a year old (in spite of the fact that my wife was a witness to the sticker and his own words). When I asked him who in their right mind would ever buy a refrigerator that had been sitting in some warehouse for 7 years at what amounted to a "new" price, he told me he no longer wanted to discuss it and then hung up on me!!!

When I called Maytag to discuss his misrepresentation they told me they were not responsible for independent dealers and there was nothing they could do.

In speaking with friends in the area I have heard that Frank is very "sharp" with his business practices. Other have been misled by him as well. Please stay away from New Milford Refrigeration if you value honesty, integrity, and being treated in a polite manner.
