My husband is active duty military x 24 years.  He has been an account holder with NIPSCO for about 8 years. We have had recent financial difficulty.  We had sent NIPSCO military orders 6 years ago showing active duty status and we sent most recent orders again 1-2 weeks ago. These were sent as per 'Servicemembers Civil Relief Act' there is protection against utility shutoff, and we knew (for the first time in 6 years +) that we were in danger of shutoff.  We also sent them a letter through their website to make sure they received the notice in the mail AND online.  My husband is also disabled from his last overseas mission in Afghanistan last year.

We spoke to 2 supervisors from the NIPSCO corporate office today, 10/29/2010. One named Nia and the other named Ian.  They were both extremely rude and unprofessional. Nia questioned my husband's military status stating "if I put Edward Crowley's social security number in the computer it should show he is in the military and it does not. When I go into a credit system, those things like his job should show up".  It left me wondering why she would be going into his credit system without our approval???

So, our electric is shut off when going against the SCRA is supposed to be a criminal violation, they are saying that they will not turn it back on unless the late amount and another $400 deposit is paid.

Just Energy Our bill has doubled since signing up for this, energy effecient program. Nipsco checked what we have been paying and what we are now paying and confirmed that. Our thermostat is digitally programmed to have heat set at 65 and our bill is $354.20 South Bend Indiana
