 I was informed that I was "one of the winners" in the "North America Consumer Promotion Draw" organized for all customers of large and respected US retailers. My award was for $8,221.50 (odd amount). The letter included a check drawn on an account from Fifth Third Bank (why not from Norther Trust Bank?) for exactly 10% of the the amount of the award. The letter informed me to contact a David Miles before cashing the check. Mr. Miles informed me to go ahead and cash the check and then to call him back to receive instructions on how to receive the balance of the award which included how to pay the state taxes of $500.00 before the final check would be issued. This had scam written all over it to me. Yes, I shop at many of the retailers mentioned in the letter, but after looking at many of the receipts I have kept on file, there is nothing that mentions my automatic entry into a promotional drawing.
