Simple rundown:
"Daniel" called me from "On the Go Magazine" selling magazine avertizements. I could hear alot of other people in the backround making calls as well.
Full page, half or quarter page ads for resonable prices compared to most magzine adds. He said the magazine is distributed in the top 4 golf resorts in my area, and sent me a link to an online sample. The link to the online sample was convincing upon first look but later I realized it was very nondescript, and it was not related to any particular city. It was phony upon close inspection, which is why I am guessing he was in such a rush to get me to buy. (i know I fell for it)
His information about my business was all taken from my website and he fumbled quite a bit, he was a fast talker and had a very long sales pitch. He offered me a half page ad on the 3rd page of the magazine, and said that he had to fill a position for my category and was calling all the businesses in my category (its only me and one competitor, and we are very competitive, so Iam always trying to get in ahead). His price was $359 for a half page add that was listed for the whole year.
I get about 10 telemarketing calls a week for advertising and have had some very pushy salesmen, but the price was right, and I am trying to get my name out. I asked him a few questions about how many pages were in the magazine, if the ad was color etc, his answers were long and he kept talking over me. His manners were so bad that I had to tell him "sir, if you want me to buy the add, I need you to answer my questions and not talk directly over me". He apologized and kept doing it.
Ultimately I said I was not interested and he manipulated me into buying the add by telling me he had to move down the list and call my competitor. I bought the stupid ad, and he asked for my credit card info. I told him I could only pay $10 as that was ll I had and could pay the rest in the nest two weeks. He didnt like the idea but took it, after telling me that he had to ask his sales manager (which took him all of 3 seconds).
He told me a confirmation would come in an email, which never happened. After I got off the phone with him I started to get this terrible feeling, I knew something was wrong. I called the number back right away and he answered (one would think that you would get a recording of a directory or that you would not get the very same guy, when does that ever happen with real businesses?), I told him that I couldn't do the add, I needed to just cancel. He started asking me lots of qeustions to try to deflect or fix something and I said I really needed to just cancel. He got more persistant and I said "listen I don't want to answer anymore questions, I just want to cancel".
He said hoild on, let me transfer you to my manager, and his manager got on the line in about 2 seconds, in fact Im not ever sure it wasn't still "daniel". I said "Hi , I can't do this add and I need to cancel" and right away he started in with the questions and agrily saying "WHY!?", I said again "i don't wan't to answer anymore questions, can I just cancel!?" he freaked, he started yelling "MAM STOP SCREAMING AT ME" repeatedly. I was like "whos screaming?" can I cancel now? He lowered his voice a little but was totally outraged, and a little scary, "IM JUST GOING TO ASSUME THE ANSWERS TO THESE QUESTIONS AND CANCEL YOU!" Then;Click, he hung up on me.
He was so abusive and weird and tweeked on the phone I called the bank right away and canceled my card. Then I called the Federal Trade Commission and reported it.
If this happens to you, please report, these guys need to get busted!

Response to "Simple Rundown"
AUTHOR: On The Go Magazine - ()
SUBMITTED: Friday, September 27, 2013
I would like to extend a sincere apology to you for your unsatisfactory experience with our company. In response to your complaint we have instituted a retraining program for our entire sales force.
We do not condone or allow an overly aggressive sales approach. We have a product that offers benefit and value to our advertisers and do not have to resort to such aggressive tactics.
Please be assured that we would not process any credit card for $10.00. As most business owners are aware, merchant fees are expensive and it would not benefit anyone to process a $10.00 charge for an advertisement.
When we do sell an ad and process the client's credit card, a receipt and welcome package are sent within the hour. If any client requests a refund, that refund is immediately processed and a refund receipt sent to the client. It is a one phone call process.
Customer service and building long-term relationships with our clients is our highest priority.
Yours truly, J.W. Parola, General Manager
