I was living in an apartment and my bills were normally priced for a 500 square foot home, at around $60.00-$90.00, suddenly I got a bill for $170 and the bills were over $100 after that. I then moved into a new home on January 26th. TXU Energy was my provider. I moved the service over to my 1400 square foot home and set the thermostat on 66 degrees, to save electricity and my bill. The first week of February I got a pro-rated bill for my apartment, set for $20.00. A few days later I received a bill for the rest of the 6 days in January, which I spent in my new home. The bill was for $174.00. Now, for 6 days of service this was ridiculous, I, however, paid it without too much complaint thinking they made a mistake. Well, I called to make sure that my bill for February wasn't going to be ridiculously high, seeing as for 6 days it was almost $200.00. They asked me to read my meter from left to right and then the customer service representative calculated that my bill for February would be almost $500.00!!!! That is RIDICULOUS! The only things that are running during the day are the fridge and the heater, which, as I said, is set at 66 degrees. I am only home from 4pm until 5am the next morning and sometimes come home for lunch. Having this kind of electricity usage is impossible. I called them back and told them that it was impossible and they insisted that I was obviously using this much energy. I went out again to look at my meter and I realized that the metal circle that spins to record power usage was spinning at light speeds. If I had been able to take the plastic cover off of the meter and touched the metal plate, it would have surely wounded my finger. I then hit the meter and the spinning plate slowed down dramatically, to a steady crawl, just like it should have been going. I called TXU back and they told me that I was making it up and if my meter was broken it would be recording not enough usage. They are obviously trying to cover something up, because I talked to at least a dozen other people with homes larger than mine that leave their thermostats at a higher temperature and have more people living in the house as well as keep the televisions on, and there bills aren't that high. There is obviously something wrong and the company insists that I pay this ridiculous amount of money for power I am not using.
