I joined this club about two years ago (2011), knowing the rules of book clubs, and that I would be required to reply every month or they would send me books.  I followed the rules to the T.  I bought the required number of books, but they still charged me $40 at the end of the one-year membership, saying I "had not fulfilled my obligations".  At the time, there was no phone number to call.  Everything by e-mail, and automated.  I did not get any books in exchange for the $40.  I didn't even fight it, I was just happy to be done with them.

Ever since then, EVERY SINGLE MONTH they deduct at least $40 from my bank account.  But then they refund it the next day, I guess realizing it's a mistake.  I have tried e-mailing, to no avail.  So a couple of weeks ago (now it's October of 2013), they send me two books in the mail, and deduct $40-some from my bank account.  This time they don't refund the money.  A couple weeks later, they deduct ANOTHER $50 from my account!  Now they have taken almost $100 from my bank account, in less than two weeks.

So I call them, obviously furious.  First they tell me, "You have to reply every month to accept or decline the books."  I tell her I'm not an idiot, I know how it works, but my membership ended a YEAR ago when I paid $40 for nothing.  She THEN tells me that there's a glitch in their system, and they have been "accidentally" sending old members books.  I am supposed to send the books back, and I will get a refund in 3-5 business days (i.e. two weeks or so, because it will take time for the books to get back to them, plus weekends, etc.).

So I calmly explain to her that with the latest $50 charge, I got NO books in the mail.  She says they are on their way.

That was two days ago.  Yesterday, they refunded the $50 back into my bank account.  Today, they deducted the $50 again.  Still no books in the mail to send back for a refund.  Meanwhile, my bank account got overdrawn, and I had no money for gas to get home.  Luckily, I made it home from work on empty.  They still have $100 of my money, through no fault of my own.

If any lawyers out there no how to stop this without it costing me a fortune, I would love to hear.  If I can get any sort of compensation for it, I would love to hear from you.  But I doubt I can, since they keep refunding the money, so technically, "There are no damages."  Just the freaking horrible anxiety from having my bank account drained through no fault of my own.

Thank you, jerk-offs at "One Spirit".  What a farce of a name.
