OA I (Opiate Awareness Institute) is supposedly a non-profit organization run by Ron Hayward who has an extensive Criminal background since 1977. He was in and out of jail for illegal possession of drugs with intent to sell and carrying unlicensed firearms. Ron never had real jobs since he was convicted of several felonies. He was forced to relocate to Key West, since he was asked to leave Madeira Beach Municipal Marina due to activities with questionable characters coming in and out of the Marina. If there is any question contact the Pinellas County Sheriff for details. He has no projects as he claims, not even at present time in Key West. Opiate Awareness board members were recruited from Facebook. They dont know each other and about the fraudulent activities. He is using Opiate Awareness donations as his personal bank account. He is a total fraud. By Floridian

OAI Fraud Alert Ron Hayward...Additional details

AUTHOR: Floridian - (United States)

POSTED: Sunday, February 11, 2018

Ron Hayward, I know you well and all about your scams. Your Secretary Treasurer friend, Lori, also has a criminal record for writing bad checks and possession of illegal drugs. You don't have an office, just a rental PO Box. You are not a Captain, you do not have a license. Provide your license number. Be careful who you hurt because it will come back to you. Floridian

Additional Details about this claim.

AUTHOR: Captain - (United States)

POSTED: Sunday, February 11, 2018

Dear reader, please make note that the content of this claim contains phrases and comments that are word for word as earlier claims. It is likely the author of this claim is the same as that as earlier claims, or simply plagerized the earlier claims from having no basis of their own. This is not an uncommon practice on review sites, and may indicate no wrong doing by the respondent of the claim.

Rebuttal from OAI Executive Board: False allegations by unnamed hater.

AUTHOR: Ron - (United States)

POSTED: Sunday, February 11, 2018

Rebuttal from OAI Executive Board: False allegations by unnamed hater.

The “Floridian” who fails to identify him/herself, making claims of fraud, offers no evidence of case information. For the sake of claification, OAI reponds to these allegations as such:

  • OAI has not solicited or received financial support from anyone other than active members participating in OAI programs and activities.

  • OAI’s founder, Ron Hayward, contributes over half of the operational funds for the organization.

  • Additional organization funds are raised by providing accommodations aboard their research vessel and performing marine salvage.

  • Financial supporters have been with OAI, and supported OAI for over 4 years and are very happy with the services provided by the organization.

  • OAI has not brought any new financial contributors on-board in over 3 years, and in no way can be associated with any “scams” or activities affecting the general public.

  • OAI has sponsored teen sailing, debis clean-up, derelict vessel recoveries, youth crew training, and other activities, engaging the youth and American veterans, at their own expense, without costs or fees to participants.

  • OAI competed with Madeira Beach Marina for FWC funds to start a pump-out vessel in Boca Ciega Bay. Our $40K grant request, donated vessel, and volunteer crew would have been a better option, but Madeira Beach felt threatened for their $140K competive grant request, and began harrassing OAI claiming we were going to cost them budgetory funds.

  • OAI intent was to provide free pumpout service, where the Madeira Beach service planned charging the maximum amount allowed.

  • OAI pulled their grant request early so as to not be competive with the municipality but the harassment did not stop. Madeira Beach therefore was awarded the grant competition and received the grant, over a year ago, and still have NOT provided pumpout services to the harbor residents.

  • OAI’s “Accross the Sand” project (see website) was prevented by an injuction obtained from the major hotels on Treasure Island, preventing any motorized transports on the beach, with the exception of emergency vehicles, effectively blocking the inicitive.

  • OAI performed many sunken vessel recoveries as illustrated by photos of Captain Ron and other members raising the derelicts. Captian Ron and crew also raised vessels in Key West that others had attempted and that were immediate ecological and navigational hazzards.

  • OAI assisted the Coast Guard Sector Key West recover vessels adrift, large and dangerous debris, and assisted with harbor monitoring during inclement weather.

  • OAI and Captain Ron Hayward have been recognized and endorsed by the United States Senate for their contributions to the community, social servcies, and youth & veteran programs.

  • OAI has provide numerous vessels as homes to veterans, homeless mariners, and disaster victims, at no expense to the recipients.

  • OAI’s 990s are public record and operates with total transparentcy.

  • OAI, like many social service organizations, have haters and those with competing or opposite interests who take advantage of sites with foreign servers and no possible legal remedy for correction. Just as the masked man Floridian , in this pseudo-complaint, presents claims but avoids identification  to advert legal action, and cannot provide any substantiating evidence.

  • The officers of OAI have known each other personally for over 12 years, and over 20 for the current Treasurer. Expect their comments added soon by them.

  • The 30 to 40 years old criminal record referred to in this claim is not evidentuary of any of the claims Floridian has presented.

OAI does not have solicitors, perform telemarketing, or engage in any fundraising activities that are not based on good old hard work and earning their way. Claims of fraud do not have any factual basis, and never had we a complaint from someone who ever contributed to the organization… only those that claim to know someone who has. Never have we recived a written complaint or a complaint from a real person, written or otherwise.

OAI believes the complaints herein are vicious attempts to decive the public and feels the author of this compaint to be the real criminal. Complaints like these affect the performance of the organization as well as our credibility, and this defamation of character cannot even be defended when they complainer hides under ambiguousness and a fake name.
